I'm always amazed when I see the photos of some of the shops down south. The contrast of the beauty of the boats produced against a backdrop of to these dirt floor tin shacks is so cool.

That's not at all intended to be disrespectful of the shop. It shows the builders priorities are not in fancy multimillion-dollar facilities. It shows the builders priorities are in his tools and his boats.

And the heading of the thread is fantastic, because I’m one that truly believes that wooden boats have souls so to label the thread that a new boat is “born” is spot on in my book.

Keep the pictures coming. I love what I see so far. I’m really looking forward to following this thread and please post as much detail and pictures are possible.

Us northern folk have finally realized winter has set in and I’m sure there are many others like me that will look forward to seeing these vessel come together over the months.

    The 28 is taking shape

Bobby has been busy in the shop getting the frames fitted and glued into place and as you can see by the pictures she is really starting to take on some shape. It will have some nice lines to her.

Stand by for more, when the planking starts it really takes on a whole new look, enjoy.

I would say it would mainly depend on what degree of finish you were looking for.
The rule of thumb in boat building is, the more you rub on it the more it cost. This rig will have a bracket on it for the outboard and a few other things like a live well etc.

A lot of guys get the boat built and painted and then take it home to finish it out, t-top, hardwear, rigging of the engine etc., thats where you can save some change.

gillamrob, first let me welcome you to the board...

If you look at the second curved frame on the left, you can see where the wood is laminated together. You keep glueing the wood up till you have enough to make the curve, hope that made since. In the picture, look for different colors of wood and you can see the seams...

    Capt.Troy Crane,

She sure is gonna be a beauty! Not many ugly ducklings float off that island, that's for sure. Do they have a stencil for the frames or are they eyeballing the flair as they go.

    gillamrob,

Welcome! This is a closeup of what Capt Lee was referring to. You can see where the wood is butted together to make a "sheet" that the curve is cut from.
