As i am not the client i am not the one to file the complaint. I will put the contact info on here and it is up to goboater what he wants to do.

While it certainly sounds like his case is solid, i have learned over the years that there are 2 or 3 sides to every story- the old "mine/yours/ and the truth" saying. I don't know the boat, know the buyer, or personally know the surveyor- i only know what I have read here.

If everything is exactly how goboater describes it, Mr. Robothan should be held accountable.

www.marinesurvey.org is the SAMS website. The office phone is 800-344-9077

I have nothing to gain economically from posting this thread. It is purely to help others. You see exactly how I approached it pre-survey (doing research on NAMS and SAMS as well as soliciting others for their opinions). Prior to survey, I had several PM's and all of which were positive feedback. You see it all unfold here and it is truth. Broker set up surveyor, he was highly credentialed and ultimately dropped the ball. Now i'm hearing from others that he is a good surveyor but very slow to forward reports...

    What am I to do...

After sleeping on it, I think i'll pay him cash and just tell him to meet me at the boat on Saturday if he wants to get paid. That way I can question his report and have him double check some areas where the original surveyor (2007) found some concerns. I don't have the time to raise a huge stink over a crappy job. I just know I wouldn't sign my name and creds to a report with bunk information!

Thanks to all for the feedback!

    A ray of hope

Purchase is going to come together after all. I spoke with Robotham and agreed to have him meet me on Monday on the vessel to go through his report and also the previous survey. I'm going to ask him for his professional opinion on the items I feel he missed and ask for his insight on the prior surveyor's findings that cause me concern.

While I'm really pissed off and fired up about the issue, I'm too good hearted to screw the guy on his fee, I just want him to "earn it" and feel like I'm actually getting something from his experience for my money (i.e., not feeling duped like I do today)
