Poon- I've got my transducer glassed in flush with the hull so nothing sticking out and it doesn't have to shoot through any glass. I can read the bottom running wide open on my 27 contender. Furuno 5200 and I don't have a 1000watt transducer on it either.

I learned my lesson many years ago with shoot thru the hull ducers, it is not worth the aggrevation that goes along with them.
Its a 50/50 when you install them if they will actually work. Transom mount ot thur hull are the best way to go. |

Don't overlook Simrad. Last year I rigged my Yellowfin with a CX44 plotter/radar with 6k 4ft open array, and EQ44 sounder with 1k thru hull ducer. Also have AP26 pilot with rate compass and Icom radios.
I looked very closely at all the plotter/radar sounder packages and Simrad, although pricey, has the brightest, sharpest screens. The user interface is not as simple as Garmin. The Simrad plotter radar/plotter overlay is a very useful feature. The EQ sounder is just incredible. The Furunos are great, I had one on my last boat, but this EQ with 1k ducer is the ticket. Some will say Simrad doesn't have a true network setup. Well that's true. The Simnet will not share graphics between displays, but all the necessary data is shared.

Rather than go through all the hassle of having your ducer glassed in, check out the B-60 from Airmar. It is a flush mount thru hull and works awesome. It is made in two configurations depending on your deadrise, the B60-20 for boat with 16 to 24 degrees of deadrise and the B60-12 for 8 to 15 degree deadrise boats.
http://www.airmartechnology.com/airm...=All&PageNo=67 Also is you don't mind waiting until July, Airmar is releasing this baby. It is the same type of ducer as I mentioned above only it is a 1k version. http://www.airmartechnology.com/airm...an=All&PageNo=

Here are the thru hull transducers that we use Airmar make the majority of the transducers out there and their site is pretty good http://www.airmartechnology.com/airm...runo&PageNo=83 http://www.airmartechnology.com/airm...runo&PageNo=67 Install http://www.airmartechnology.com/uplo.../17-008-05.pdf With the Contenders there is no place to put transom mounts do to the steps, etc. Speed tends to do wonders of ripping them off and they just do perform as well as the thru hull. 50/200 600w work well for inshore with depths under 1000 and the 1kw works the best for depths over 1000' Also thru hull read at higher speed without losing bottom like hotrodmarlin said. I have a 1KW going in a 33 Contender this week I will try to take pictures as it goes |
