there's way too much misinformation on the whole ethanol thing-way too much...everyone is very quick to blame the problem on the fuel, truth is,i've seen very few problems.
most of the problems were "caused","caused" by a missing o ring on the fuel fill,a problem with the fuel tank, that's about it...
the stupidest things will cause a problem-the missing fill cap o ring is the best...
decontaminating the tank ? how was it done ? removing the fuel through the withdrawl fitting, there's still basically 10% of the fuel capacity remaining...
startron, stabil for marine-the companies making these products are making a nice profit by "hawking" their stuff, truth is,i've never reccomended using anything, ever, untill it's time for winter storage-then i use stabil...
last yamaha engine i worked on with a big problem was a 150ox66 engine, the owner, was having a problem with the fuel system being contaminated-a fill cap o ring was missing,i decontaminated the tank and it was fine for a few weeks.another problem occured with the fuel- i questioned the tank,i asked the owner about any fumes,he said none...the boat had a plastic tank, the deck was lifted, and i discovered a crack in the tank...tank was replaced-situation solved...the "vst" was damaged, due to the ingestion of sea water and fuel mixed-nothing else was effected...check the pictures...
the fuel/sea water mix, actually caused a galvanic reaction with the aluminum float needle, and the bronze seat for that needle-causing it to sieze, the fuel pump was also siezed...
again, this situation was "caused",it's not the blame of ethanol...
clear up you contamination problem, otherwise, the same thing will occur, and do not believe the bullshit concerning ethanol in the fuel-if you want to buy starton,or anything else, send the money to the people in the gulf, they need it more than those companies, and the money will actually do something...
