I can say why....from experiance....I'm not the professional charter capt that some are on here...hell I don't even have the time on the water that 90% of the people on here probably have...but this is my experiance....we had a 27' Albemarle express with twin mercruiser 350's that pushed that boat at a great speed of about 35knts or so top end(probably was chugging gas at .5 mpg)....thats moving for that size boat in my opinion....I will go out on the limb and say that you can't find a better riding hull out there than that thing...it was great(for the $$$)!!!
But guess what....cleaning it, maintaining, etc etc etc....was TOO much for me....the cost was WAY too much....so we traded her in on a 23' Open Contender....guess what....the boat gets 3mpg at 30mph cruise....at 4000rpm...I was out drum fishing(keep in mind I'm still learning how to drive this thing....) it was snotty out....nasty serious tightly stacked 4's in the bay...(i'm not the type to make shit up because what point will that serve) but while we were running in...the boat kept going up a wave...and coming down pounding....only the 3rd-4th time I was driving the boat....all I kept running through my head was what I was told by Lucky Lady when we sea trialed her "if this boat ever starts to pound...you're running too slow...tap the throttle up make sure the tabs are down...and you should be ok...this boat runs best at 30-34mph"...) at the time we were running at maybe 25mph....since I'm not use to it...I was hesistant at first...but said f-it...got to find out...tapped the throttles up and away she went...the pounding went down to a minimal...and we cruised it at roughly 30-32mph in a tight 4' chop.... The reason I'm saying this is from my experiance....the boat was bouncing around sure...but these boats do better going faster through the crap....and that day I found out that what I was told....was very true...I'm a younger guy...and I didn't have any problems with it....now if it were any rougher out...I don't think I could have been able to do it, sure other guys would run them in it but not me...so take it for what it is...these boats are great...their much more economical than the big express boats big sportfishers...(at least mine...I know the bigger CC's aren't) their easier to use...easier to maintain...easier to clean up...cheaper to dock/insure/gas bills...etc etc etc....easier to transport....and more importantly in todays market...easier to sell if need be... The ride of our Contender isn't like the Albemarle...but then again it's much faster..we are using it about 1000%more...cut our costs by at least 1/2 and wouldn't trade this boat for anything!! That's my .02 on the subject, for what it's worth...might not even be worth a penny but I wouldn't think of getting rid of our boat for anything.... Different strokes for different folks I suppose ![]()

What is the sq ft of a cockpit on a 24 proline? Enlighten me here. What new 32 Contender were you on? Or where did you get on the boat at? I will ask the owner to measure it just in case they have a custom post on it. |

I was looking at the canyon runner boat.. which is the newest 32 i could find.. dont know the square foot but it aint nuttin compare to a 28ft henriques at about 60 some odd square feet. the proline is about 30 i would assume but not 100%.. i got on a 32 at comstock and also got on a 34 venture at coti and they both have NO cockpits.. now i am used to fishing in boats with large cockpits.. i mean i got a 33 express which has a 13' 6" beam and have about 8 feet.. the cockpit it all over 90sq ft or so but i dont know.. i just dont think it is worth it unless you are in capemaychefs shoes.. d different strokes for different folks is completely correct.. i have been offshore fishing for about 11 years now and i cant take the offshore beating anymore and i like to fish not so nice weather because i find it to be very productive for me with bigger tuna and such.. i am talking about 80-110mile runs.. if you are going to spend 300k on a new 32 regulator it is not going to be comfortable nor is it going to be less expensive to run as say a 28 henriques.. my boat is a 33' pace express and i think at a 22 knt cruise loaded up with fuel and a few guys i am not burning more than 30gph with a 18k displacement.... plus loaded with 320 or fuel and such.... just giving the guy some of my personal comments.. the cockpits in any of these cc is no more than 40sq feet.. not even a chance. they are maybe 6X5 or a little more. |

Now I get it Canyon Runners boat is a Regulator and not a Contender and you were on a Venture at Coty. The 34 Venture and 32 Regulator have more space. Another comment that is un true is boats can't run in 4's Our 36FA w trip 250's burns about .9 - 1.0 MPG at 26kts - 35kts, put twin 350's on a 33t and it gets better and put twin 250's on a 31t and its even better You are messing with other peoples minds and money here and your statements are mostly untrue and its not a good idea to steer someone wrong when you really do not know. |

I am not a big fan of center consoles for one reason and that is weather. Vinnie, With center consoles cock pit size is less important since most of the fighting with fish is done from the front of the boat.

I just took a BIG Hit on my " LOAD " 2005 -32ft Regulator FS with a pair of 300 HPDI's ! I had this boat for 2 seasons , i gave all the money on a trade-in price ! Regulator boats do NOT book well with the banks , but they do hold there value sometimes, if they are under powered or have HPDI's they are a very tough sale ! P.S. - My opinion only ,but i have been on dryer boats in the same size class !!!!!!!!!!!!! Cardinal Joe

just my opinion...
I have not been here that long and from what I see you'd better just give Mary / Lucky Lady your envalope of money and she'd bring ya back a cool boat... (seems she's sorta like a lorax she talks for the boats instead of trees!)... and I do mean that in a good way also not being an ass. but you do need all the storage you can get and 'butt room' <~~ (Seating ...) if ya like to relax for a night out on the water!
