Still think it's a decent backup for main system(s), but I looked at the charts on my buddy's phone and it was way off. It showed Nauset inlet where it was back in the 60's. Even my Garmin charts aren't totally up to date on that inlet, but they are much closer than the chart on this iPhone app.

A great backup for $5.00!! But I wouldn't actually use it unless it was a life threatening situation.
The charting is so poor in the Boston area it might get me into more trouble than just life threatening.
I would like to report all the discrepancies but I don't have an extra month.
Hence the disclaimer, "for reference purpose only"

You guys know that the source for the US charts is NOAA right? Navionics does not move the charts around.

The best thing you can do is report it to Navionics if you see an issue. In the past we have alerted NOAA to charting discrepancies to be fixed and continue to do so. When it is fixed, Navionics contacts you and offers a free update.

Nauset changes frequently, the charts from NOAA do not unless they resurvey. Its no different for Pleasant bay cut, Katama bay cut, Chatam inlet etc. All of them change frequently and they are not always resurveyed.

The point is, the chart is only as good as the source, and if the source is not fixing than the only other option is to report it so we can investigate it with NOAA.

Regarding Boston, given that the structure there doesn't change as dramatically as Nauset or Chatham, Navionics would be curious to hear what you have found because we rarely recieve reports of issues in that area. They are more often than not confusion with user error and outdated equipment.

Well, maybe NOAA hasn't surveyed Nauset since the 60's b/c the inlet hasn't been where the chart shows it since then. The important thing is to just keep your track, mark waypoints, and use those vs. the chart in inlets, harbors, and any close structure.

man what has navionics done for me lately ?

But man they sure feel ok about taking people from sites that worked hard for years and spend a lot to build them..

Sad industry when the big boys show up and take advantage.

Send me a link to where i can earn per sale of you app please from our site.

When I launch our new app platform maybe we can talk.
