Figured I'd revitalize this old thread as we are back on U S soil and rockin and rollin... Insurance man wants her out of here before hurricane season which starts June 1.
A full empty of island stuff was first on the list... Two days of mundane junk that needed to be done. The boss man bought me a new mate just for this section of getting her right. New Strataglass was first on the to do. While thats in the shop I've had the new mate out there with toothbrush detailing every inch of the hard to get spots. A full day involved with bringing the chair right with all her chrome.
Did every cushion and hard surface on the boat. Took the riggers down for an alumaguard bath and shining. Did 32 outfits worth of tackle respooling and where needed rebuilding. Just got our replacement parts for the rigger the blue trashed in the islands and got that job done.
Replaced capacitor and motherboard of our 12v sysyem to get the amps necessary to run our water maker the way she's supposed to run. New shiny antennas are headed up top along with our new ardf. Running another stronger transducer with temp into her. Running the existing transducer to another unit up top. New probe for the tridata going in.
Hauling Monday for zinc change, a coat of micron and a full hull waxing top to bottom. Change a trim tab line too I guess...
Stuff her with our northern toys squeeze some diesel into her tanks to feed the dirty thisty ones and put the N on the compas I guess after that...
Blistering pace! Man! Touched up paint in tower. Moved lower gps up top and top one down. Ran stuff for RDF and may get lucky to have a spot she was born to fit in... Did an oil change and both motors running honey again. Laid out all my lures and picked a summer set. All ducks in a row for quick haul.
New mate workin his arse off... Deep Deckhand will get his share of work this summer but for now this kid is humpin it to meet deadlines we have in front of us.
Finish welds in morning...
THe electronic guys hustled through the weekend while I did some tackle catch up...These guys have game... Ardf all running, new antennas, reran one transducer etc... Quick and clean.
Today though the brakes went on. travel lift was occupied with a boat waiting for a power wash but the power washer was busted...
Would have had the new transducer in and wheels off for reconditioning but by the time we got pulled it was too late to get anything done...Thunderstorms arrived a half hour later so even simple stuff was no longer an option.
On a sad note, the guy who runs the ship store was in a bad way. Went home for lunch on Saturday only to find his fiancee dead of a heart attack. She was only 39... As you might guess he was destroyed over it...
Despite a forecast of biblical class floods we got almost the whole day in doing stuff... I have been fighting with her boot stripe since we got her. Tried a blue one but just didn't fit and for that matter it didn't stick. Oh hell lets take it a notch further and the tape under neath it shit the bed too...
Well my new grunt and I toughed through the rain. Rempoved the blue, removed the tape and glue and did her right back in the original color. Nice offset to the bottom...
Lets talk about that for a minute. I have become an ardent fan of micron 66 and with good reason. after six months we don't have so much as a smudge or dirty thing on that hull. The trilux and micron 33 though sucked on the metal. We stripped sanded and re primed today... I'm just gonna learn to live with 66 on it too I guess...
Were in position to pull the wheels and make them round again but the wrong type puller was brought so they are still tacked on until morn. May have them reduce pitch and add some cup but not sure yet.
The new 1000 watt with temp tilted element was loaded in and short of the epoxy fully setting that chore is done...
On went the new eisenglass windshield and instantly we could see there was a problem. The old panels were harder plastic than the strata glass and didn't show that something was wrong til the corners cracked. After installing the new set cut exactly over the old we could see that the fabric on the originals had stretched bad enough to cause the failure. The new ones are back in the shop being adjusted...
Had a plumber aboard to see if there was an instant hot water heater that would work... My replacement pac bay guides for our custom rods came in today... My butt slammed shut when I saw how expensive they are but at least we are set for the forseeable future... Other than that we're still moving right along. Ahead of schedule and right on track for making this the single finest tricked out 43 Viking anywhere on the planet...
North next to the River House.... In fact if you want to go to the River House from land you're gonna have to drive under my pulpit. If you're gonna come visit and give me lures to test. Let me know in advance so I can hide my secret stuff...
