    Motor help

When I got my 28 Bertram the previous owner had put in 1 new 350 crate vortec motor that makes 310hp. The other motor was the standard 350 260hp motor. He made up the hp difference in the props. I have pulled both motors and am planning to upgrade the 260 hp to a 310 hp motor. I have the heads and intake but I am wondering about the cam. Does anybody know the specs on a 260 hp cam and the 310 hp vortec cam so I can compare the two? Also the 260hp motor had a wedge under the carb to allow the carb to sit more level. I guess it was around a 10-12 degree angle wedge. The 310 motor doesn't have any type of wedge. Does anybody know if I need this for both motors or where to get it from? Any help would be appreciated.

    Re-power question

    Hey cdail,
if it's a mercruiser conversion , you could go online and get the cam specs , if its not, maybe a marine power engine you should still be able to get the cam specs. if the intake and carbs are matched engine for engine the cam is probably an easy fix. also talk to a reputable machine shop as some cams have the lift and duration stamped on the end lobe. as far as the angled spacer plate you can try mercruiser or the carb manufacturer also try JEGS.COM, its a hot rod parts supplier and they sell it all , cams carbs , some marine engine parts and they ship stuff pretty quick. good luck with the repower and let me know how it turns out

there's no easy way on this...you've got a vortec engine and a non vortec engine-different engines, different torque curves...not just the cams...this is why it's a dumb idea to play the "crate motor" game...still trying to figure out the whole "crate motor" thing...not really sure what that is...in my world,i replace engines with a new engine,as in new, ready to drop in place,complete...trying to play a game and get these mismatched engines to work together is like trying to get a cat to work with a dog sled team...smart play is to go back to square one-get 2 motors of the same design...
not trying to be harsh here, but truth is,you've basically got a man with a horses body going on here...not sure what people are thinking when they do things like this...

C... sell them things and come down and see the outboards...

you will be so happy with speed, weight, fuel, space underdeck and handling...

unless you buy the 310 hp version of the block the cam / size of lifters etc, will always be confused. I have built 350's for my own boats and the jegs kits are the best along with the msd ignition boxes. you can always go diesels now that you have the gas stuff out also the cumins and yanmars are a great option.
