Ya gotta love it. The guy I talked to at Interlux said without a doubt you do not want to take the 66 into fresh water. I asked if even for just a weekend, and he said don't do it. He also said specifically, that when the boat was returned to salt water the 66 "might not" function as intended.

It's not the first time I've heard different answers from people at the same company, so it's not surprising, but it kinda makes you scratch your head a bit.

I just had a thought. I'm buying a remote controlled boat (I have been wanting one for a while anyway) and I'm going to put some Micron 66 on the bottom and let it sit next to my boat for a few weeks. Then, I'm going to "haul" it and stick it in a pond for a weekend, and then put it back in the salt and see what happens.

You know I'm trolling some sabiki's with this thing too.

Do you want me to send you some of my left over PropSpeed for the shaft and props too. Make sure you prep the bottom good on the sabiki trolling machine before you paint.

As for the Micron 66 info, mine came from the VP of Marketing at Interlux, all I can suggest is call them again at that 800 number, which is tech support for Interlux. Would hate to see someone put this on and have problems. I'm going to go ahead and put it on in the next few weeks, but I never spend much more than a few hours up Forked River in brackish water, unless I get to drunk at the Captain's Inn and need to spend the night.

Hell yeah, I can't let growth on my running gear slow down the sabiki machine.

BTW, after serious consideration and the approval of my financial advisor, I have decided to buy the RTR Seaport Tug. The lines are cleaner on the sportfish, but the tug has the "Professional Large Torsion Propeller System" which will kick ass for trolling.

I don't know how far the water hose shoots, but I'm pretty sure it's going to end up shooting beer.

Talking micron 66

I was at a few docks away from you at Spicer's for several years and have been using Micron 66 for many years. It is better than Micron CSC by far for application as well as performance. With the purchase of my new boat 08, I went the more environment friendly route with an anti-fouling polish that dries to a very hard and slick finish and works pretty good with little effort.
I will be painting a 30 foot boat in the next several weeks with Micron 66. The boat presently has micron CSC on it now and it's in good shape, so putting Micron 66 will be easy. My profile pic is of my previous boat that had Micron 66 after two seasons on it and still does. The new owner put a coat on after the 3rd year. I did apply 3 coats plus the primer when purchased new.

Thumbs up Micron 66 Update

The boat has been in the water for about 8 weeks now. The bottom and sides were done with Interlux Micron 66 black and the transom was painted with Interlux Bottomcoat by the boat yard after they did some fiberglass work to the exhaust. I have seen no growth on the Micron 66 to date and the transom already has turned brown with slime and growth.

The props were done by Atlantis Propeller with Prop Scan technology and the shafts were coated with PropSpeed. All vibration is gone and she runs smooth as can be with the reconditioned props.

I went from a 24-25 knot cruise to a cruise of 27-28 knots and she now tops out at 31 knots. Last year she would not get over 30 knots at wot.

Ken-

Boat looks good! What do you have for power? And have you always had 4-blade props on her?

That's pretty good performance numbers...especially on the new numbers.

JD,
I have the 485hp 671's and the 4-blade props were standard on the 45ss when they were being built. I have run older 42, 46 and 44's like yours and you can't compare the preformance and new hull design that the 45 has. I probably run her a little harder than you run yours. My mains only have 1000 hrs on them so they are barley broken in yet. If I'm running offshore, I back her down a bit and cruise around 25 kts or so.

My buddy has a 1984 46ss and it had 3-blade props on her when he bought it, he switched to 4-blade S&S props a few years ago and his cruise when up about 2 knots. The 4-blades make a big difference.

PS-Hope you took notice as to how my yard blocked the boat for the winter. Very little weight on the keel and alot of jack stands. Make sure your yard blocks her correctly for next year so you don't have a problem with the keel cracking again.

Ken-

You were definitely reading my mind on where I was going with that post....thanks for all the info! I have been considering 4-blase props but my research led me to a point that basically said less blades equals more speed and more blades equals smoother power, but less speed than three blades. All that was based upon theory....not necessarily practical application. Perhaps I should reconsider the four blade application for my boat.

And yes...I did take note of how your boat was blocked.

Thanks again!

Below are some pics of the barrier coat, bottom job and Prop Speed application.
