63-bert-6.JPGi just purchased this 63' bertram and it was re-done in 1999. it has twin 200 merc offshores on a bracket, with only 180 hrs, i was wondering how well these engines perform. i've been told that they like to drink the fuel but i imagine thats only when your into it. well any input would be appreciated. vin

I had a 1997 225 Offshore with a bunch of unknown hours. It was very reliable. It never left me stranded. I only had to replace a stator other than regular service. It did have a drinking and smoking problem

I have a 1999 merc 250 efi- other than drinking fuel, it has worked well. I've put some money into it from the normal water pumps, to having the injection system redone to improve the fuel economy and a few other things, but overall a good engine.

One thing to do is always add the fuel treatment to prevent carbon.......alot of the larger horsepower engines can develop carbon problems without adding treatment.

I have a single outboard on my 27 proline and I get around 1 mpg. I hold 170 gallons of gas.

With those #'s your getting anywhere from 1.3 to 1.4 MPG. You can call High tide marine or look them up on the internet. They specialize in Bertram parts and have the ethanol friendly fiberglass tanks.
