I think 1.3 to 1.4 is stretching it a little. 1 mpg is probably a bit more accurate. My opinion is they are dependable engines just not efficient by today's standards.

i've heard that they are very dependable, and i also heard they like to drink the fuel, but then again they also provide alot of power. i don't mind the fuel thing because i choose to do what i do and not have too. my biggest thing is the dependability. thanks for the input[/b]

I have a 1997 225 efi that i just rebuild. It had a berring go bad. Freak thing no one had ever seen not even Mer. Rebuilt and the reed valves started going out. Replaced all of those and it is running strong.

Had to replace the lower unit because it was locked up and could not get the shaft out to service. But she never stranded me and runs good.

We ran her out 60 miles to the green cold water for the first time and back two weekends ago burned 114 gallons.

The mer. is on the back of my 24 Albemarle CC

It only had 200 hours on it when I got her so I thought it was goin to be great. Wrong

The moral of the story is you always take a chance buying something used

Hope this helps

beautiful boat....
as for the mercs...i think those fuel #'s are being very generous....and maybe w/o the boat being loaded....you should probably be closer to 1mpg.

I knew we had the problem with the lower unit after it was purchased when i took it to my mechanic he tryed heating it up but would not move.

Ran about 100 hours before the bearing when bad.

My engine sat a long time without use @ the beach in storage I think that may be why the bearing got corrosion in it and needed to be replaced.
