Arrow MARY'S INTERNET RANT OF THE DAY!!! CHARTER BOATS

I know some have been waiting for this for a while and I am so busy with boats I just haven't had the time to do as promised. Play with boats or educate people

This one is titled : CHARTER BOATS FOR SALE, AND THEIR CARE, AND CAPTAINS!

    Ok so here goes.

Today I get an email and it reads "I am not interested in a boat that has been used for Charters"

Not everyone thinks outside the box, but I am going to shed some light on this particular subject because it flat out pisses me off with people "assume" and misjudge and cast character on charters and guides of the world.

Let me 1st start by saying that " Not every Charter Boat is used abused, rode hard and put away wet" . Me being the person I am and been around this industry and fishing as long as I have, that statement "can" be the furthest thing from the truth. I will take this one to my grave with me!

I would put my life on this one and all my bank accounts that there are some captains/mates charters/guides that "take better care of their boats then most regs"

Any "good" charter captain and crew will run his operation like a well oiled machine, no leaf unturned, no care or maintenance left undone. Because his business, reputation, and peoples lives are at stake!

Don't get me wrong there are "bad" boats, that have been abused rode hard put away wet", but there is a difference by far.

So with this all said, please don't judge people by other peoples assumptions and bad perceptions because I promise you that " you will miss out on a very good buy" by peoples misguided thoughts

Please understand that I am not pointing fingers, calling anyone stupid or anything of that matter. Like I do everyday in my business of buying and selling boats I like to help buyers and sellers make an educated buy.

If its a piece of crap that has never been cared for in its life, unlike some brokers " I WILL NOT LIST IT OR EVEN THINK OF SELLING IT" My reputation is very good and my name is recognized by quality not quantity. This is precious to me and I protect it everyday and will not jeopardize or compromise just to make a couple bucks...

    RANT OVER!

I wont dispute what you wrote because I do agree with you. I don't quite understand why this bothers you. If the customer is looking for a boat, and doesn't want to purchase a boat that has been used in the charter business whats the problem? He is the customer spending his hard earned money. Respect his wishes and find him a boat.

However it seems to me lately everyone on here has a RANT! I too, dont want a charter boat. Mary, grow up, and give the customer what he wants. I too have a ton of complaints about my customers.......but I make money overlooking his quirks and moving forward. He also doesnt live as well as I do. Lately this forum is all about complaining about the customer doesnt get it and wont get it. So what? Move on and sell....sell......sell. And quit your complaining.

Bond... Not a very friendly first post... That crap is better left on other sites...

I hear ya... I also understand both sides of the argument about charter boats and their value. You are a damn fine sales person. What gift you have on your side is honesty. Brutal honesty. When I was selling boats it was that brutal honesty coupled with overcoming objections that sealed the deals.
I'm fiddling with the idea of selling my skiff and Deep C as I just don't have time to use or even care for them properly. If I do go forward I will use that as my opening line. Right up front state dis-use abuse... But then I can go right back in with what has been done in the way of upgrades, maintainence, etc. to set the playing field even again.
C Gull is 25 years old, has nearly 5000 hours on her 1992 power but she has had her steering and cables changed every year. Her carbs rebuilt annually, lower unit oil changed every 100 hours and with a fresh battery she'll still light on the first go. After cooking her first few engines by running hard this one was babied.
Deep C has been well maintained but I didn't start with fresh engines so I can't vouch for what life they have left. They've got fresh long blocks but the external components are getting tired. I'll tell that up front and the potential buyer can decide from there for them self if they want to move forward.
You have that skill... A gift... Stick to it, don't get frustrated and you'll do just fine...

Mary, I'm looking for a 40 footer that goes 50kts, burns 1 gal an hour, raises fish, has a full salon, plenty of fishing room, lots of cup holders, with low hours. Maybe you have something a little old lady used to go to the grocery store once a week.

I'm not knocking the customers wishes, I respect them. When its said just as with any detail its respected. I am more knocking the famous things I have heard over the years.

A Lot of people have been misdirected in boats and motors over the years and that's the pure point of this rant

It just like all newer outboards no specific brand have hour meters now.

For some reason people think that 300 - 400 hours is a lot and the engine is no good anymore.

But the pure technical fact is that most all 4-stroke motors are rated up to 3000 hrs. Manufacturers don't publish it for many legal liability reasons.

This theory didn't exist till hour meters became standard on most boats.

Every hear someone say "my buddy told me this or that" 9 times out of 10 the consumer regardless of product has been misdirected. Thats the point of this whole rant. Not the customer the misunderstanding that "most charter boats are abused and not taken care of" when 9 times out of 10 that is incorrect.

Time and time again I have seen consumers pass on a boat for little things but hey its thier money and I want them to be comfortable spending it. I also want them to be educated as well.

Charter boats are normally cheaper to buy than recks boats because the boat paid for itself and most of the time is rigged out to the max they get free stuff from peeps in the industry so on and so forth
