Marine CD Used to Attract Sharks & Other Predators

Went offshore in my friends boat during the summer and it was hot, hot, hot...and still as death out there. For some reason those conditions don't necessarily cause great fishing. So, true to form we saw little bait busting and were catching very little indeed, trolling.

Switched to rig hopping and fishing from the stationary boat rig-hooked to the rigs. Caught a few small snappers of various legal sizes after about two hours or hopping but nothing to write home about.

So, we decided to stop and have lunch at the current rig and turn on the CD player to some rock. No lines in the water and all was quiet for a while but for the CD player which was rocking for sure and at great volume.

Then we noticed some undersized kings starting to show up near the boat. After that we saw a few stray sharks show up too, mostly small blacktips. Then we saw a really large bull shark trying to tag some of the smallish kings. That was the first action we'd seen all morning long.

As we'd not done anything differently, weren't chumming or even fishing and as the appearance of activity seemed simultaneous with us turning on the CD player I thought it might be due to the music, or more precisely, the beat. So, I turned off the player.

Within about 10 minutes the activity ceased and no pelagics were seen near the boat anymore. So, you guessed it, I turned on the player again and in about 30 minutes the sea around the boat was full or predators again. Same pattern was repeated.

So, on the next trup one of the guys brought along a mixed CD with a very heavy beat. No Willie Nelson or Parrot Head stuff mind you, but really great rock and some rap (I hate rap). It seemed to attract predators when tied to a rig just like the other time, but, it didn't seem to have any effect on trolling.

So, what the question? I'm wondering if anyone has tried using their onboard marine stereo receiver/CD player as a fish attractant. If so, what music or maybe just sounds did you find attractive. I imagine that if we were to have the sound of splashing and frenzied fish activity and played it really loud it might be effective too.

So, what do you guys think of the idea? I've got a long winter ahead of me and I need something to play with besides anatomy.
