Looking at buying a used vessel with two 1000 hp Man diesels. Don't know much about them however I do know that 1500 hrs. for a 1990 is a little low. Any imput would be apprieciated.

Expensive to work on. Part's are on the "rich" side. Might want to get ahold of your nearest dealer and see if he can give you some names of folk's that own them (that wouldn't mind you calling and asking about them). Frank

get the serial numbers of both engines and research them..

find out if there has been any work done on them... when was the last inner-cooler / after-cooler service done <~~ that is the big dollar service that some fear... water pumps??? get a survey from a mann dealer to check out the engines on sea trial the best $ spent!!! then you have an idea of what you got! depends on how they are taken care of. I like them myself they are in all the viking sportfish boats I run. fast good o fuel for weight / hp.. just learn how to care for them and where to run them.

What kind of boat are they in?
Older 12 cyl Mans had a lot of injector pump issues. Many of that vintage have had them changed out. Man switched over to the the single injector manifold "common rail" motor which was a significant improvement. Older ones smoked a lot.
Man parts are very expensive. Even things like oil filters are pricey. Plenty of guys have them and love them. Spend the money on a good survey.

They are in a 1990 58' Ocean Yaghts convertable. I still haven't seen them myself. Only pictures. Quite simpley, I thought hours were a little low, meaning they have done nothing but sit. VERY BAD FOR POWER PLANTS!!! I will definately have them serveyed before decision to purchase.
