Macerator Pumps, who makes the best?

Any input on who makes the best macerator pumps? It seems like the off-the-shelf units don't last long.

    Macerator pump

There is no best macerator pump.We have tried them all with little sucess.(johnson, shurflo, jabsco etc.Unless you use it every day the rubber impeller gets dry and sticks to the pump housing and when you turn it on the armature does not turn and puts a carbon arc or shorts the armature. When you put a new pump on grease the new impeller with waterproof grease and it will last longer.I have switched to a whale (shower/galley waste) diaphragm type pump.So far so good they do not macerate but can pump large waste. The diaphram pump is what I have heard also. When my macerator pump dies I will switch to the diaphram pump. I use the pump on my fish box pump.

JRZCAPE do you recomend a teardown each season to make the macerator last longer?

    I'm the opposite man.

I switched out all the diaghram pumps for macerator pumps. I'm a huge fan of the macerator. I've had to replace only one in my fish box and that was because it got some mono stuck in it. Other than that, they've been flawless.

    I like the Jabsco pumps.

get the diaphram pumps. you wil pay more up front, but it is much better and last. You can run them dry as well with no issues.

I have had good experience with TMC macerator pumps. It is super powerful, beats my previous Jabsco pump anyday. I have not had to teardown the pump yet. I believe TMC manufacture their own motor in house, not one of those 'made in China' motors. I hope that helps. Happy boating!

Galley Maid, out of Riviera Beach, Fla. heavy duty and last. Looks like an industrial pump, it's remote mount so it may be to big for some applications.

Also, the Head Hunter pumps are getting a lot of attention. They demo them at shows by flushing penneys, panty hose etc. down them and they never even slow down.

The Jabsco etc. don't last long in the charter industry in my opinion, not made to stand that kind of torture day in day out

The galley maid macerator pump is a true beast. The one on my head can pump a 2 x 4 through it. The only thing that will bring it to its knees is a tampon, so make sure noone throws any of those in your fish box.

A macerator pump isn't the only thing a tampon will bring to it's knees.
