M800 bag phone

Anyone using one of these off of OCMD or IR, if so, how do you like it and what kind of range do you get?

Danny ,
Is this the old Analog phone? Capt. Bill still has one, they use them in NC. I thought that the phone companies would not carry service for them any more, could be wrong though.
I had one on the old Banshee, called Bodean from the Baltimore, but 16ft of antenna helped alot. Just get a sat phone, iridium works!!!

Dub,

No, this is a new digital phone that is supposed to have either 2 or 3 watts just like the old bag phones. That amp & antenna that I bought last year was a huge waste of money and I am sick of not having cell service after 8 miles. Thought this may be an alternative to buying or leasing a sat. Did you hear if Jeff is cleaning fish this year? I called him last weekend on my way in but never heard back.

not from that general area but my brother has one of the m800's and it works ok. It works better than the hand phones but not real sure if it works as good as one of the old analog bag phones though. If your handheld phone worked up to 8 miles that bag phone may work up to 10 or 12 from our experience.

My understand that the M800&M900 transmits at 0.6watts. This more that the hand held phone but no where near the old bag phone. I understand from reading some blogs that the M800 can be plug into the DA4000 amp to kick it up to the 3watts.
Last year I bought the DA4000 and an antenna to use with my handheld cell phone but have not had the time to put it together yet. What has your experience been using the amp & anteena ?
