    Lowrance HDS Features Announced

Lowrance just sent out a dealer memo about some new features the HDS units have. Sounds like their version of Furuno's TimeZero functionality.

Includes (first and only) TurboView™ enhancement!
When using a compatible Navionics chart, TurboView offers incredible new dimensions in navigational awareness.
    • Fluid pan and zoom, plus viewing rotation
    • Integrated 2D and 3D chart views with likewise seamless, stutter-free transitions
    • Striking 3D land and sea bottom profiles with depth and elevation contour shadings

    Radar/chart overlay functionality
Interfaces charts and radar detail in a detail-rich HDS color display when employing Lowrance HD Digital Radar or Broadband Radar, coupled with a compatible NMEA 2000® heading sensor.

    Lowrance HDS7M

I'm going to purchase a Lowrance HDS7M as a stand alone back up GPS Plotter. Any comments good or bad on that unit?

I'm thinking about the HDS 5x and HDS 5m units. One is a plotter the other a sonar. The small screen prevents me from getting a combo unit. Plus I have heard bad things about Lowrance combo units. Not the HDS specifically, the pre HDS units.

    Lowrance HD-7M

Wow! That's great unit on it's own let alone for a standby. And at a good price too. You could, if needed, network that unit with other NMEA 2000 equipment. Good choice.

I am interested to hear your thoughts on the HDS unit. Have you had a chance to run it in deep water? Say 350 or deeper?

    Without question, Mrs. Cotton
I talked to the Rep at the Miami Boat Show last month. He said that the 8" & 10" units were about to start shipping in late Feb. Has anyone seen these units hit the streets yet?

They are very impressive. And at the price point, I can't think of 1 negative (except that you cant get your hands on one).
