    Lowrance 527i GPS/fishfinder problem

Hey guys I got a little issue that someone on here may be able to help me solve. I am sure it is something simple but I wanted to post up on here before I call the company. Here is the deal...

My lowrance 527i GPS/Fishfinder is acting up. The gps is not reading accurately. I went to several wrecks offshore using gps coordinates that are either right on top of the wreck or really close to it. My gps says I am over the wreck and I mark nothing. After some circling around I end up finding the wreck but I am slightly NE of the actual gps corrdinates. It is even happening when I am near seabouys. It is about 100 yards off consistantly. I have went through the setup procedures over and over and it is still not reading correctly. I used a handheld gps to compare gps numbers and they were not the same while we were in the exact same place. Any advice on what to do or how to troubleshoot this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance guys

Have you tried to upgrade the software yet? You should be able to get it via their website for free. You will have to read the manual for instructions. Don't know if it will help or not but may be worth a shot.

    WGS-84

I know you said that you checked the set-up but, I would check to make sure that the system datum is set up for WGS-84. It is the standard for this part of the world. It could explain why the coordinates are off. I would have thought this was the default setting. How is the signal? Are you receiving WAAS corrections? I would check the datum first.

The next bite on a jig.
A lot of units have a setting for "off - set" I would dig around in there and see if there is anything in those data fields. If there is not, then you may have to punch in the data.

Mark the actual wreck, then look at where your gps shows it. Figure up your offset and punch it in. Sort of old loran style.

Not perfect, but if thats what it takes to get it accurate, then go for it until you get your next gps.
