i have the same issue sometimes with my Raymarine GPS. Saying no fix. The problem is the antenna builds up a charge and has no where to go. When it happens turn OFF all of the power to the boat all the batterys switch them to OFF. Wait 30 minutes then turn them back on and it is back to good.
Yes the old Raymarine antenna (120) will, over buffer is the term I use. They get 12V from a source other than the display. Sometimes people wire them to a 12V source that is on all of the time and they overload. So yes, make sure no power is going to the antenna and turn it back on will work. Although the problem will get progressivly worse. If the problem continues just replace the antenna.
Guys, several things to look at with GPS, being a long time user on the military side of the house. Your almanac data may be out of date, or corrupted, or, if on the east coast, it may be getting jammed. I'm new to boating, so the antenna issue is new to me, so I can't speak to that issue. But, if it is jamming, I'd try to cycle power on the unit and also check the notices to mariners. Almanac issues should be resolved once you get a good update from the satellites. Hope this helps.
