I know the pluses and the minuses to the donweast design, I also know how Bill feels about them, but I've also owned and run downeast hulls and right now I need a nice stable and safe 18 knot cruise boat that I don't need to worry about the weather in to take me out and back with the wife and kids. When the kids get a older, I'll suplement it with a nice 20' regulator.

Everyone has their own opinions on which is the best boat. Fortunately I'm endowed with the knowledge that my opionion is right, and everyone elses is wrong.

Unfortunately I am not on commission, I just let Bill keep all my money for save keeping
There is no truly "best boat" out there, there are just compromises base on how you are going to use it. Best of lucky on the Duffy. The BHMs are nice too.

    Thanks Mackey.

The major problem is that no matter who you talk to in the boat building world, thier product is the best, and everone else's is junk.

I've spoken with 1 dozen and a half builders and with a few notable exceptions, they all talk junk about everyone else.

    Ride on a Duffy 31

I ordered a Duffy 31 from Atlantic Boat this past May. The boat is scheduled to be finished in January 2009, but I am not going to pick the boat up until May when the weather warms up. It should give me some time to sell my 22 Grady White.

I am having the boat finished by Atlantic Boat also. I went to Maine last October and they just happened to be finishing a 31 and I got to take a ride on it. When I order my boat in May, they just finished another 31 and I got another ride.

If you call them, you may be able to time a trip to see the sights and get a ride. I am going back up in October to see how my boat is coming along.

By the way, the only way you can get this boat without a motor box is to go with a Yanmar. While I am still learning about downeast boats, I would be happy to discuss any questions you have.

I'd like to hear what you thought of the ride. What kind of seas were you in? Obviously you liked it or else you wouldn't have ordered one. Is that a hard or soft chine hull?

We decided on a different downeast hull. The Duffy was a little small for a 31 from our pespective.
