    Junk in water

We have been picking up some opaque slimy stuff in our water filters. We have 2 200 gallon aluminum tanks, and this stuff is stopping up a whole house filter in a half a day with just flushing the toilets and making ice. We use a Wet Spot water filter on the water supply from the dock to fill the tanks. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Was the boat on the hard all winter? How full were the tanks lately, if the water is very cold and the boat is warm the tanks will condensate inside and all kinds of things will grow in there. I would flush the tanks a couple times and then when they are empty put a couple cap full of bleach in each tank and then fill them up, let it sit for a couple days and then flush them a couple times again. The wet spot is not really a filter, it just collects some of the heavier sediment and calcium and metals that make hard water. If it hasn't been back-flushed often, it probably isnt doin much anymore. Is there any hard white flakes in your filter? Calcium buildup used to be a big problem in our old boats tank. Hope you get fixed up.

    Thanks

Worked on this all day, seems everyone agrees it is bacteria. We have flushed the tanks, chlorinated, and will flush them again in 24 hours. I hope and believe this will cure the problem. I really appreciate your response. BTW...it stays in the water all year.

lime and lemon juice both clean tanks.

the citrus is very good to get smell or bacteria out of tanks and it does not hurt you to drink it . easy to dump in some considerate every once in a while.

Get a few gallons of cheap (Popov, etc) vodka and dump a couple in each tank periodically. You'll never smell or taste it unlike bleach which you have to be careful with.

It does a good job a of keeping the water fresh smelling.

How much concentrate would you put in a 200 gallon water tank?

    tanks..

I would fill about 10 gallons of water and dump 4 good size bottles 20 oz. each in it and fill the tank all the way full (make sure you burp out some in the over-flow..) wait an hour or so and then empty it all the way. do that twice and then re-fill it with at least a bottle and see if it solves your problem.. I'd much rather have citrus in my tank than bleach products but that is just me.. you may have to keep up with this for some time to get all the crud and slime out of it.. a boat ride in chop would help.. lime or lemon concentrate is what I have always used. hope it works for you.

    Seems to have worked

Cleaned the tanks with clorox, flushed, and refilled. Put some lemon concentrate in both tanks. Filters were checked after a couple of days use and appear to be clean. Thanks for all the help!
