John Deere Power Systems is launching its new marine engine and will display it at the Miami International Boat Show.

The PowerTech 6090AFM75 marine diesel engine boasts as much as 317 kW (425 hp), the company said.

"John Deere continues to work on expanding the marine engine lineup with more new models and horsepower ratings," marine marketing manager Dave Flaherty said in a statement.

"We designed the new 6090AFM75 to provide high power output with reliable, durable performance for propulsion and generator applications," he added. "The new engine maintains the legendary long-term reliability our customers have come to expect from John Deere."

The new PowerTech 6090AFM75 has 9.0L of displacement and is a 6-cylinder, electronically controlled, turbocharged and air-to-engine coolant aftercooled marine engine.

I ran a head boat that had a John Deer marine engine and i have to say it ran well, took a beating, and was low maintenance. They have been in the diesel game for a longtime and I believe the cost was very competitive to anything else out there.

    No Doubt About It,

John Deere makes some long lasting stuff. They generally keep the hp to cubic inch on the low side and don't turn the engine rpm through the roof. The only thing I wish they would do (from my end of the biz) is recognize that there really is a marine market. It is such a small percentage of their total business that sometimes it seem's they don't even know they have a marine engine out there. I personally wouldn't hesitate to put one in my boat. Most on here know I don't say that about many. Frank

There is also a 9 liter scania in a ferry boat in europe with 40,000 hours on it. If the Deere is only pushing 425 hp out of a 9 liter engine it should last a very long time.

To put that into perspective cummins makes an 8.3 liter engine pushing 540 hp. Yanmar's 500hp is 7.4 liters
