JET DRIVES
More bubbles? Anyone tried a boat with water jet drive, instead of wheels seems to me that if you want the best of both worlds throb of a diesel and bubbles this is the way to go apparently they back down super quick, and are really easy to handle any info would be good. from a fishing point of view.

The jet drives do create a massive wake of bubbles. At trolling speed (7 -9knts), you have to run baits either WWB or out wide on the riggers to find clean water. Above 9 knts or so and the wake is too wide.
We have a 52' Hinckley (Little Harbor) with twin jets and riggers chair etc...... have not fished a lot but it does seem to raise fish when we do go. |

In Bermuda we fish for a lot of Wahoo and so we run two downriggers of the corners with 12lb weights. We run these anywhere from 60 to 90 feet back so I guess they are just under the bubbles. We catch Wahoo on these.
As for end of wake, I would estimate 200 feet back. I think the drives raise fish... but we also have twin 900 Detroits. Fish love DD's!!!! |

Thanks bud seems a little deep to be running rigs but hey! though have you tried a little shallower? dredge in the wake? in the bubbles? seems you would not need a teaser? the dd's I understand will always work have you tried the SNIPER death from above God bless the BOX planers? on both shorts, just under the bubbles or just in , it has to work. cannot believe that there are only a few boats using this rig "jets" that is not planers. How about you rig 2 planers together, difficult to set up and get in the water, but one short one long, trace wise. if the baits run true not jumping around in the water they should not hang up on each other. Or another option how about stacking planers? This might need its own thread, again using 2 different lengths of leader underwater, deep long shallow short, as long as the depth between the two planers is less than the length of the shallower trace, the leaders as Far as i can see will not tangle, Air and water work the same so if you can double stack kites why not planers? Tripping of one should unhinge the other and bring both to the surface, this would need to be tied off to the boat cleat, and not attached to an 80 or 130, as I do do think that the drags could cope with 2 planers even if one is much smaller, so one smaller planer on top of a bigger one below to pull it all down to the correct depth, now my mind is asking questions only the big boys can answer, could you set it up that only the bottom planer is attached to the boat that when it gets hit then the short top comes up as well, and visa versa. anyway thanks again on your reply to the jets.
