Chartered a 34 Blackwatch out of Port Stephens, AU which had IVECO engines in it. They weren't bad, but the owner wished he had Yanmars in it. You should check on some Australian fishing boards as these Italian diesels are more prevalent down there.

I wouldn't be comfortable offering any advice here but this. As with any boat that you are looking to purchase, you'd do well to MAKE SURE that there is someone in your area that can and will take care of you if you have problem's. By taking care of you I don't just mean in case of a failure, I'm talking about the day to day workings and maintainence of your engine. Ignorance on the part of the owner or his servce provider can eual only one thing, disaster. Most of the time if you'll listen to someone with a little bit of knowledge of the product and passion about what he's doing, you'll have little in the way of problem's down the road. That's my experience anyway. No matter what machine you have "your only as good as your service",Period. Frank,SeaPower

They are a very dependable engine, popular in alot of commercial boats.

I have a load of Iveco trucks in the commerce park where the room of death is... Heavy duty stuff so I guess they are tough at least in street aplication... That being said, I have peninsular engines in my Albemarle... Basically Hummer engines ... Basically is where it ends though... Since they are tweaked for ponies and marinized thats where they are tougher. 90% of the stuff I need for them I can get in any auto parts place. Thats good. The marinized stuff though... Like hunting snowflakes in the tropics...
Make sure you have marine mechanical help for the Ivecos if considering. Do a physical verification check that they do... The Peninsular site listed several local places to work on mine. and these places never even heard of them...

I agree with seapower if you do not have anyone to service them you are out of luck! The "certified mechanic" is of the upmost importance to any kind of anything marine, especially motors and warranty. The old "WET AND WILD" has some big Ivecos, it is the "Spray" now, the couple times I have run the spray the motors seemed to run well. Its all about local service.

Again verify with the places them selves that they do... Peninsular sales manager listed three in my area as certified repairing dealers and the places had never even heard of them.
