    IVECO Diesel- Any Information Appreciated

I am considering repowering my 28' Albemarle Express with a pair of Iveco SOFIM HPI 230 four cylinder diesels. Iveco has been making diesel engines for over 100 years in europe and are owned by FIAT. They are relatively new to the US marine diesel market, so information has been tough to find. Thanks for any help you can offer.

My only advice is to see where you can get service. I have heard great things about these motors. Its just difficult to find service.

Craigwill- Just because something isn't well known, doesn't mean it's not good. I just have to look a little harder for information. But I do appreciate your input.

    mkg,

Craigwill's comment is valid. If information on an engine that you want to buy is hard to find before the sale, how much easier will parts and service be, after the sale. This is not intended to down play the engines themselves. But there are quite a few engines that do very well over-sea's, but don't cut it here. In the end if this is what you want, buy it. But I tend to think of down the road, if you own the boat for a period of time, down the road will be upon you. What then ? Frank

Mid Atlantic Engine Supply[ MESCO ] in Cinniminson, NJ sells and services Iveco engines. I don't know anything about the engines but I do know They area good outfit with great customer service. I have been dealing with them for several years. One of their mechanics, Chuck Bernard has done work for me and is one of the best there is.
