Ah yes, the rains/pours syndrome. Sorry to hear about the run of bad luck.

On the carb issue, don't forget the filter in the carb itself as well. If not that, I guess a fuel pressure test is probably in order.

Re: the trailer. Is it definitely the axle? Or maybe just the bearing race. If the bearing spun, can you clean up the axle enough to get a new race on it, or is one of those cheapie deals where the axle is the race. I've never seen that on a trailer before, but nothing would surprise me. A pic could help here.

Is the one at the carb your talking about the small in line filter? When I was taking off the nuts to the fuel lines to
seperate them to get to the little filter is when I found the cracked Choke Pull Off. I have already looked at that one.
The one I haven't looked at is the fuel water separator. Is that what your talking about?

Here are a few pics of my scored axle. The top looks OK but the bottom is where it is scored. The outer bearing/castle
nut and all hub parts were gone when I got home. The tire was cocked a bit sideways and the bottom part of the hub
was rubbing on the bottom of the axle. once I lifted it up and placed it on the jack stand, It pulled right off. Yikes !

    Here are a few pics....

    That spindle looks like toast!!!
It also still has part of the inner bearing attached, but I would like to see if the spindle can be replaced into the end of the axle or if the whole axle needs replaced.
    Good Luck!!

Re: The filter, yes, I meant the one inside the inlet of the carb.

Re: The axle.... what Proheat said.

The shaft itself might be salvageable, but the missing threads look like a dealbreaker. Some places sell complete axle kits fairly cheap.

That's what I originally said that I thought it was toast also. I have priced the rear axle several
ways but here is the deal....

I inherited the trailer when I purchased the boat 1 1/2 years ago. At that time none of the brakes
worked. All lines were rotted out and the actuator did not work. It held the boat and would
make it back and forth to the boat ramp 7 miles away. IT WAS NOT ROAD LEGALN ! I have
a 2500 Suburban that is rated for 8500lbs of towing. I knew the condition of the trailer when I
inherited the package. It's also a bunk trailer. With the size and weight of my boat at 24ft / 4400lbs
dry, I really think I need a roller trailer. I only have a bill of sale for the trailer from NJ anyway.
All this together tells me it's not worth my effort, time or money to refurbish this trailer. In
DE, any trailer rated for a gross weight of 4000lbs or more has to have assisted brakes on one
    axle.

At our local Boat and trailer store a 3500lb axle is $146.00
    regular hubs are $34.00 each
Disc brake hubs are $44.00 each
actuator, brake lines and all hardware is $389.00
A axle kit with the mounting hardware, spring perches and new springs is $149.00 per axle
for a grand total of......$1135 to refurbish this trailer. It still wouldn't have a title or rollers instead
    of bunks.

I have seen many 24ft long roller trailers in good shape with a title for $800.00 -to- $1200.00

I think I should cut my losses and start looking. I literally work 200 yards from my marina
with the public boat ramp in Delaware City DE. I'm planning on slapping a hub on her and leaving
it at work and trailering it in and out of the water a total distance of 200 yards. I think I can
get away with that until the end of the season. I'll start my search for another trailer in the off
season when prices are lower. I found a great deal on craigslist with a 24ft Sea Ray with
a toasted motor sitting on a roller trailer that needed work for FREE ! Someone swiped it up before
I got a chance to get it this Saturday morning. He said he would let me know if it fell through.

Everyone PLEASE keep an eye out for one of those deals. Let me know if you stumble across any
    of them.

Inside the carb is another filter? I didn't take it apart or order the kit until I land run it with the new
choke pull off on it. It that doesn't solve the problem the I will rebuild the Rochester.

    Thanks,

    JBQ

Where the fuel line attaches to the carb, there should be a pleated paper, or if it's really old, a sintered bronze filter in the fitting. The book should describe it.

I guess people might call it "inline" since it's inside the fuel inlet fitting, but I tend to think of those spliced-in clear filters when I hear the term "inline filter".

Yup, I checked it and it was clean as a whistle. I'll look at the water/fuel separator next.

I was able to get a hot tip on a roller trailer in a local marina. This mechanic did
some work on a boat and the owner couldn't pay him. The boat owner gave him this
trailer as payment. He wants to get his money back out of the trailer that he was owed
for the boat repair. I will look at it this weekend. It's a 1999 24ft roller trailer with a clean
title. He wants $500.00 to get it off his lot. ***Whaa Whooo!*** He said he would
hold it for me until Monday so I could get a chance to look at it this weekend. I'll let you
    know how I make out.

OK, I ran it on land after the replacement of the choke pull off and the
water/fuel separator. It ran great. Started right up and warmed up
with no problems. My next step is to pull the fuel tank and flush it out.
It's a 1979 boat and who knows if it has ever been done. I'll do that this
    week.

As for the trailer, I was able to re-thread the axle that was chewed up.
I then took off all the drum brakes and used the old drums as hubs. I took
each hub in to my favorite parts store and we measured each one
individually to compensate for wear then ordered the matching
seals and bearings. I received them and installed everything without a
hitch. I will be swapping out both axles this fall so as for now this is
a temporary fix to get me back on the water. My 2500 Suburban will
be able to handle the boat and trailer just fine. It's rated for 8500lbs of
towing and is more then capable of stopping my Sea Ray.

Once the tank has been pulled and flushed, I'll fill her up and go for another
sea trial, hopefully next weekend. I'll keep everyone informed.

Well the tank was pulled and power washed inside and out. I didnt see
anything that looked gross or nasty coming out of the tank but I did
see some small pieces of debris come out. I will replace the fill hose,
fuel line to the motor and drop a new sending unit and pick up in the
tank tomorrow and put it all back together. I broke the fuel pick up
off when I was lifting it out. It looked pretty bad and corroded
anyway. After this I will have eliminated all possibilities in the fuel
delivery problem except the fuel pump and carb. I think I fixed the
carb problem with the rough idol by replacing the choke pull off so I'm
down to the fuel pump, if the problem is still there. I will try to get it
out this weekend, probably on Sunday.

I'm Still looking for a great deal, or a steal, on a double axle, 24ft,
roller trailer with brakes and a title !!!!!

    Update soon,

    JBQ
