    Ice and your Boats

    WARNING
ITS THE COLDEST ITS BEEN HERE IN A LONG TIME AND RIGHT NOW IM STARING OUT MY WINDOW AT THE BACK BAY.........TOTALLY FROZEN!!!!!!!!

NOT GOOD AT ALL - SMALL BOATS SURROUNDED BY ICE AND A OLDER VIKING WITH ICEICLES HANGING OFF IT TOTALLY SURROUNDED BY ICE.

CHECK YOUR LAY UPS ON YOU BOAT POLICIES - ARE THEY ASHORE OR AFLOAT.....CHECK YOUR EXCLUSION - DOES YOUR POLICY EXCLUDE ICE????? IF YOU ARE NOT SURROUNDED BY A DOCK WITH A BUBBLER SYSEM OR YOU CURRENTLY DO NOT HAVE A BUBBLER SYSTEM FOR YOUR OWN VESSEL CHECK YOUR BOAT.....ICE CAN DO MAJOR DAMADGE TO A VESSEL.....WILL YOU BE COVERED????

IN HE PAST WEVE BEEN FINE - BUT ARE YOU THIS MORNING????

You made an interesting point about Ice and boats. I guess being from the south that is something we rarely if ever have to worry about. I have never seen that in a policy down here. I see now why you have been so successful up there because you continue to point out things in policies that most people don't know. Very few people read their policies and they don't realize something might not be covered till they have a loss. Good advice. BTW it was 11 here this morning.

Thanks for the kind words....i woke up went out o the deck with coffee and to have a cig and i almost choked on my coffee....a older 45 Viking is surrounded by ice.....NOT GOOD!!!!!....If there is a weak spot in your hull - ice will find it...your pipes can freeze...your O/B motors can be damadged......and im staring at over 50 boats still in the water..........I hope everyobdy is fine - but many problems cant been seen until later...and if your vessel was found to be in the water when it should have been ashore - no matter how much you fight if you have an ice exclusion they will deny it.......not what i wanted to wake up and see - and like i said prior this is the coldest its been around here in a while - I know many of these guys who keep their boats in the water all year............I just hope it warms up before any real damadge is done....

    EXCELLENT tip! Thanks!

I'm usually in the water up here in CT, but I'm up on the hard this year and it's looking like I picked a good year to be out of the water.

    we don't get ice...

in fact it is 71 degrees out and our boats just sitting outside in the sun... we did just buy another year insurance though and if you get your happy lil butts down to fish a day or two we can show ya our policy and see if we can find some sailfish to swordfish. don't bring any ice though we have an ice maker that works just fine...

The only problem with ice down in the south is that if we have enough on board.Happy to say we don't have that problem most of the time.
