I/O to Outboard???
How difficult is it to rework a I/O hull to a single outboard?
The hull in question is a 23' Allmand mid 70's model. Is a bracket a must or can you transom mount the outboard?
Other than closing and sealing the opening is much reinforcement required? Any other important issues?
Thanks,
VC

I-O to an outboard
I have an old 233 formula that I converted to Outboard. I love it. 250 yam on a custom full flotation fiberglass bracket. It probably performs atleast 25+% better accross the board. The full transom is nice when I stripering on sandbars and a 1to2 ft wave smacks the transom and nothing bad happens.Try that with a cut out for the outboard. I just sold my 99 yam 250 and hung a 2003 yam on it. Im keeping this boat.I believe that they could of only dreamed that they could have a single 250 hp weighing 550 lbs in those days when they designed and built my boat?

Crab mustard is good
I would go with the bracket if it is possible. You are probably going to need to reinforce the transom.
Two good websites where this conversions has been done.
classicseacraft.com
and
classicmako.com
Post up some pics if you can, we'll give you some ideas.
A little epoxy and plywood, anything is possible.

Allamands are great old boats to repower
get a good bracket like he said up there ^^^... something you can stand on and trim your engine all the way up with also! the electric is easy on any boat and engine s are now plug n play kinda things so don't get excited. the main systems are house .. nav / anchor, bilge pumps, deck lights, vhf radio, am fm , etc ...make a list of everything that YOU want onboard and take lights to 2008-9 specs go leds... then you will know your wiring needs. keep it simple and you will save $...
