Weaky wacker
Pending on how well you know those old OMC's. I have three of them on the back of mine and know every bolt so I would not worry. If you are not able to fix that beast while at sea, get a kicker motor for it and you be good to go. Can't go wrong with that price, just add another motor for the safety factor.

Women love me... fish fear me
go for it, no matter how good you are at fixing what ever may break at sea, a seatow or towboat us membership is worth its weight in gold.

Sounds like a good deal, I would just be a little worried about a 1988 engine. I don't know if you are in the price range, but I have a 1997 20' Trophy for sale. It has a 2003 Suzuki DF 140 four stroke engine and is loaded with options. It has a color fish finder, gps/plotter/fish finder combo, radar, vhf, remote spot light, 30 gallon livewell, 2 batteries with a switch and a custom top with a three sided enclosure. The engine has approx. 330 hours and is warrantied until July 09. I have taken the boat off shore 30 miles and had no problems. I am looking for $16,000.00. If you are interested shoot me a pm and I can email you some pictures. Thanks Kenny

i fish a 257 grady center console. its a nice size boat for just getting up and going an 8' 6 beam is pretty good
twin 150 four strokes push it to a good 25kt cruise and its a really nice boat.
You may not have a 80k laying around but i would really consider twins cause it will be a LONG day being towed back from 40 miles and you shouldnt have to call a tow boat for breaking down in a bay or something. And you really should consider radar. it should be required. Dont forget an epirb either
thats my 2 cents, good luck with whatever you choose

I think Admin is going to let me have this space
I am not sure there's such a thing as a "bad" first boat. Heck, I wanted to go out and sleep in mine. And that was a canoe....
I would say find a small kicker for it, and jump on that deal.

We fish a 25 ft parker that is an 87 model. It has been repowered about 12 years ago. We don't worry about going out 50 mi. Even thought the boat is old it always gets us home safely. Like several said you might want to get the towing insurance or a kicker motor since you only have one engine.
