You can PM DAMIFINO and ask him as well. He has a 26 center HS with a pair of 225 FICHTS. He has been running them for a while now. I am sure that he could give you some additional feedback too if needed.

The pre 2002 motors had several problems ranging from soft lower unit gears to computer mapping problems.
There are fixes for the pre 2002 motors that have proven to be effective. 2002 and later Ficht motors are solid with no major issues to date. |

I have a 26 HS vector with twin 225 fichts and I have had no problems! In 2000, there was a recall on the engines dealing with the fuel intake port, but other than that there have been no other factory recalls. The 1999 evenrudes on (not including e-techs), do require more amperage to crank than traditional omc two strokes, but this is also why they fire up so fast. I installed an additional battery on my boat for most of my electronics so I have dedicated batteries for each outboard!! I have no complaints, and fished my boat pretty hard!! One advantage of the evinrudes- They Get up and Go!!!!!!!!

Thanks guys. I'm mainly looking for a 23 hs. Most of then have 150 fichts and most are 99-01. There is one that i like alot, it has a pair of 2000 Evinrude ficht's. I'm still a little leary of buying a boat with these engines. How many hours can I expect from these?
