2-Stroke outboards you will see somewhere in the range of 800 - 1600 hours before a major failure normally compression loss or a blown powerhead. A lot of this also depends on maintenance and everyone cares for their engines differently
This still boggles me why a motor that cost so damn much has such a short life, I have a pair of F150's new in July '07 with 940 hours, at 14,500K a piece they should last 20 years, but reality we look at outboard after 6-8 years as being out dated. Imagine buying a honda and 6-8 years later you have to look at engine replacement. I know there are a lot more stress on marine outboards, but its really ridiculous what they are getting away with.

The 2strokes are even worse, 800-1600 hours thats 3 years of fishing for someone who fishes a lot. Thats ridiculous and they still want 10K and up for these things.

Just venting a little.

Anyone catch the Obsession report in JAN where Capt. Jeff was pulling his single diesel for replacement? 35,000 hours and still running, it was actually for sale after the pulling.

That is insane, when are the outboard market going to demand better lifespans?
