    Hey Guy's, Do You Diesel?,

I've been getting some PM's here lately about some diesel issues. I made an offer on Wahoonbox's "Welcome to my world" forum a while back that if I could help with some issues I would be glad to. I do help with Power Squadran's, boat owner associations, owner's clubs, etc..., in this sort of thing (maintainence and operation). I do this at no charge when asked. I learned a long time ago that this is truely a "small world" and we all need some help from time to time whether we like to admitt it or not. That being said I am a little leary about getting into this. I have given this some thought about bringing it to this forum and may end up kicking myself severely for it.
I am a marine diesel service owner and very willingly admitt that I don't know everything. I will not slam anyone's product (different brands). Most issue's can be handled from a "generic" standpoint. I know that I can't answer alot of specific questions about alot of products, there are just too many new and improved versions coming out now. Stuff that you knew last week is now outdated. I am willing to give it a try and see how it goes. Some things may have to be dealt with in PM form. Please know that I work full time and then some, so my replies may not be as quick as expected. Again I am just offering help if you'd like. I have absolutely no desire to get into any "pushing and shoving" matches with any "know it all's". There will be no arguement's. I have found that by having discusion's such as this everybody ends up learning, myself included.

I hope you go through with this seapower. I am a diesel truck mechanic, pretty much because one day I plan on owning a boat with diesels in it. Looking forward to hearing about common problems and fixes when you get some questions. I hope this works out for you.

    Frank,
That would be awesome - Yet another great feature on Sportfishermen.com.

Kinda funny, but I first found the site by accident from references on an Pay Marine diesel site, and just hung around.

    Thanks in advance
    Fred

I'm interested; especially if you have common rail experience.

I'm 4 years into the Volvo D-4 common rail journey; had one exciting incident last winter which Volvo took care of, and would have really appreciated some non biased help at the time.

Boatdiesel tastes great but when you get to the hard stuff is a lot less filling than one needs.

FWIW - I had a pair of 42P's and went through exactly the same head leak as 3CCC's and ended up with close to a 10K bill from the yard for a double head job back in 2002. A lot of stuff happened fast along the way to up the cost from the original 6K estimate - machining the heads, burned vales, bad elbow but it would have been nice to have been able to get a 2nd opinion at the time.

    Sea Power... your opinion ...

my next project after the little flats boat is to install a Cummins / Merc drive set up in one of the bertram 28s that I plan on making a straight deck express type rig with a large canvas / aluminum frame tower rig out of it. I look at the old twin inboard power of 215 original and figure I'd like to have at least 400 hp single with the bravo 3 drive. stick a bow thruster in her and I'd still be able to dock like a normal creature.. what hp would you install? figure in hull is 12,500 lbs with engine and drive

    Great idea Frank!

I would welcome a diesel forum here on SFC. I've had a boat with Cummins B series for 2 years now and that's been my introduction to diesels. A forum here lead by someone in the industry would be great. Most - if not all of my questions can wait a while to be answered. It would be a great service to me. Thanks for the offer...

I am offering some help if I can, don't want to open a new forum. Just trying to be a good neighbor. Frank

    Frank-

That's a very generous offer. Thank you for your time and effort. Just one comment, I hope that most of the info can be posted on an open thread so that we all can learn from each other.

    Thanks again!

Frank, your input here to date has been excellent and provides a much needed resource for those of us that "do diesel". I've tried to put in my two cents of experience on the Green diesels, which are a work of love for me. Keep up the good work.
