this is your usual discussion between wife and husband , but please give an honest answer, We have a 21 wa it is in a slip, in a creek that leeds to the mouth of the Rapp, about 1/4 mile to the Rapp. which is about 2 miles from the Ches. Bay, this is not a marinia, there are no full time people that watch the boats. We are about 2 1/2 to 3 hrs away from the boat (she won't move closer either!!!!!!!!!) How long would you leave it in the water without going and checking on it? Again please be honest. Thanks
well that sucks that its that far away..but if theres nothing you can do about that part. I would just take everything that has any value off the boat. Just as easy to grab all that good stuff when you leave then to leave it. Theres been alotta boats broken into this year...all over the place. Theres really not much to do. Ide check it atleast once or twice a week.
But you are there using it every weekend anyway.....
Seriously, need more information:
1) fixed or floating dock?
2) shore power and battery charger, or not?
3) scuppers drain well above waterline, or close to it?
4) proximity of trees or other sources of leaves and debris that can clog scuppers?
5) cockpit covered, or not?
6) number and capacity of bilge pumps?
7) number, size, and type of batteries? How do you leave them set up when you leave the boat?
8) proximity of other boats, or upstream threats?
9) anyone around who will take a look at every once in a while?
Fixed dock.........no shore power or solar charger........scuppers are about 6 inches above water line.....trees are not to close but when they start to turn will deff. have to pull it out.......cockpit is now covered........1 bilge pump and if I remember right it is a 750 or 800, I know it is big for the boat......I have 2 batteries both deep cycle, I do ck charge with meter before we go, but I only use one at a time, but I do have the wires there to run them together.....no real upstream threats not much there, there are a few other boats but some of the owners I do wonder about (knowledge),the slips are small so if one of theirs were to come loose it would probly not danger ours, also there is not much current but of course it is tidal......and there is a friend of mine that could ck on it once in a while when he takes his out, he is not where mine is but does go out the creek right by mine when he does go and has the time, which is usually once a week unless he is tied up......
And Oh YES i would much rather be there every weekend and day off using it or better yet live there within 5 min would be even better
the trailer is in good shape, but I am a stick in the mud on this one, it is not a busy ramp at all but it is a pain to put in and take out, just a couple of boats can be an hr wait or more.
The only item i would add is a second bilge pump with float. Wire the second float to the battery that your current pump is hooked up to. That way if the battery should go dead the second pump will run off the 2nd battery. With a covered cockpit you should be ok. Is this a sterndrive or outboad? If its a sterndrive when was the bellows changed last? This is the biggest cause of a water leak into the boat.
sometimes i sit and think, and sometimes i just sit

i would say at the least every two weeks or so and prior to big weather events when known up front and after big storms as well. Do you know Anyone around close by that you could /call ,or have stop by and check on it for you would be a great stress reducer as well if you can find someone. Barnacle bills dual pump/ battery method would be a must too. good luck-
Thanks, I have her to at least 2 weeks, this month it looks like every weekend, I do have someone who is going to at least do a drive by when he goes out, so that makes me feel better, and I am going to do the 2 batt and 2 bilge pump too.
I think it would be alot easier to move closer like, hmmmm right on the water so th boat is at the house where you live, well that is another argument LOL
