as for advice on the set up i agree 100% that a stainless plate as a backer is way better than a piece of wood. you are going to get lots of stress cracks under and on top the gunnel in the near future.... and i would recommend sorting out those two screws... maybe change them to bolts, oversized washers and lock nuts

just my two cents or screws....
That must have come across the wrong way because I wasn't on the attack. Thats why I said I'm not being sarcastic. I appreciate all the constructive input.

Stainless isnt necessary. Aluminum will be fine. Whatever a metal shop has for scrap s fine.

I'm going to be out hunting for some metal today to right the wrong. I've now heard stainless plate and aluminum plate. Now, won't 1/4" aluminum have tendencies to bend or warp with the stresses being placed on the immediate area? Or am I wrong here? I would rather go with aluminum because it will be much easier to work with however seems to me stainless would be correct here. Input please.

Aluminum is more rigid than steel. They make springs out of steel you know. Most builders, the good ones at least, use aluminum as a backing for cleats and other fittings. 1/4" is probably okay, use 3/8" if you're not comfortable with that.

The only reasonable answer I can come up with is that you were all hanging out with little Shirley, uh um, I mean little Jimmy Andersons shack. And then you all waited until he posted up pics and whew, let the fireworks begin. Pretty screwed up if you ask me. Since I've been on this site I have posted up with what I know. Not what I think I know, nor did I wait until someone else said something derogatory and then jumped in the mix.

Now, my bone here is with Mrs. knowitall, little Shirley Andersons Marine Serveces. He has actually p.m.ed PartmentJ and told him to remove the pics before everybody thinks that this is the way to do it! WTF? He even elaborated and said that nobody that posted up replies knew what they were talking about!! Then he p.m.'d Fortunamate and told this young man to leave the site because he doesn't know anything and he has nothing to offer! WTF again? Have you not seen his vids. They alone speak for themselves!! Do all of you know his age? I do. And for what he knows at such an early age in his tuna killing career, well I'm jealous! And I grew up on tuna boats!! This kind of crap belongs in little Shirley Andersons Marine Service girls room. And not here! This isn't what the site is about, it's about lending a hand when you can. Giving advice when it's asked of you if you're that much of a professional. Not to bash members down because you feel tough behind a keyboard. I expect some responses on this one.

Is this how we as SFC members, the best fu#kin fish killing site ever, is this how we should act, or should we put that other crap aside and help each other. And no I'm not talking about flying kites for bigeyes. I don't know what more to say but think before you type maybe?

Good luck SFC, cause if this keeps up, you're gonna need it.

never seen the tread untill yesterday...sorry,busy at my shop...and yep,i did ask him to remove the picture of the screws not going into a backing plate, peoplewill confuse that and believe that's the correct way...

NEVER TOLD ANYONE TO GET OFF THIS SITE,THAT"S A LIE !!! show me the pm...that never happened,if you're gonna type something type the truth, something you guys seem to forget about...

truth is,if you need to ask for advice on how to do something,on an internet message board,it shows a lack of experience and knowledge-fair to say,yes ?? by the pictures this guy put up,it shows a lack of mechanical aptitude, fair again, huh ?? the present way those things are installed, they're gonna pull out in a second, someone will get hurt...he's into something that's not gonna be able to be expalined on an internet message board.i told him to have someone do it correctly-that's good advice !!

I actually got great advice on this message board, and plan on making proper adjustments. We don't all have the money to dump on having a professional install done on each and every improvement... Not saying it wouldn't be the correct way to go, just can't afford that sort of thing with student loans hanging over my head. In addition, this is a learning process, and I am a do it myself type of guy. While I have never done anything like this before, you are never going to learn unless you get your hand dirty, and receive some constructive criticism along the way... (yes???) From what I have gathered thus far, I feel that making the proper adjustments to strengthen these things is not that big of a deal, and I look forward to getting back in there and putting some backbone behind em'.

I am extremely appreciative to all who have given me great advice. Further results to come....

Why did sushi attack jawz? What did you just sense that jimmy would not aprove of those screws missing the backing block? You dont grab the tigers tale and dont expect to get bit or atleast clawed? Im still a little confused, but then again, That happens alot with me.

It seems to me Sushi42 must have eaten some bad sushi or something, going after Jawz12. I've been reading this site for a few months now and Jawz12 seems to be the kind of contributor a site like this needs: very knowledgeable, straight-forward, not afraid to step on someone's toes a little if they're full of it.

Your actually wrong again cupcake. This was all premed. and forethought out. I could care less about the swim platform. Trust me, I'll burn the friggin thing if it gets in my way here. But again, all a test. It seems to me that your attitude needs some adjusting. And I figured that I'd tweak it a bit. Worked like a charm. As a matter of fact, I haven't had that good of luck since the last school of bluefish came through my slick!! You were much easier to bait than I had imagined, flew right off the handle and then showed your true colors. Again, screw you. I don't like your attitude, I don't like how you post replies, and I definitely didn't like the fact that you are attacking a young man who's got just as much of a right to post how he feels about what he knows, and trust me, he could teach many on SFC a lot! So thats it in a nutshell, you're a dick. I brought the best out of you and in record time. If some of you think he's awesome, good. I don't mind that at all. Like I said earlier, none of this entire situation has affected me except for my stomach muscles. They really took a beating over the weekend. I haven't laughed that hard in a long, long time.
So, go ahead, get the last post in cupcake, I'm sure you'll feel the need. It's your m.o. And I'll see ya around. I'm sure of it!
