    Growth on running gear

How do you guys protect against growth on your props?

When I hauled in May, I ground off all growth and sprayed with Interlux clear outdrive paint. That crap seems to be feeding the tubeworms, the amount of growth is incredible. Have never had this problem before, and it was my first time using Interlux

The only spot where it is not growing is the area around the shaft zincs where I masked off before painting

Hauling on Wednesday to clean it up

You need to clean it, prime it primocon and then use the Trilux outdrive paint. Brush it on wherever you can reach, dilute the paint a little and spray the areas your can't reach (spray bottle). Put on 2-3 coats...

I'm in VA and this is the only thing that can slow down the growth. You need to use the boat weekly...let it sit, it's over

Try the Petit Zinc Coat, works great on shafts, struts and props, Actually I only paint the center, nut and about 2-3"s of blades on prop and running boat seems to prevent growth on rest of blades. On Chesapeake Bay

As another weekend boater that only gets to fish/run the boat 2 times a month or so, I have a relationship with a local diver that will clean our running gear and hull line for about $100 bucks, and even change a zinc if necessary.

For the cost of a mid-season haul, you can likely have a diver visit the boat 2-4 times and know it'll be ready to roll when you get there.

Let me know if you need the name of a diver in Manteo/Wanchese area.

Propspeed works great. It's a two part system and you have to work fast but it doesn't let anything stick. It's actually kinda tacky when when it dries.

There is another product from interlux called prop speed that is very similar and a little cheaper. My friend used it and he hasn't had any problems.

Sorry about that... I ment Prop Koat from Pettit is the cheaper version.
