Greg Slayton from Delta Performance Marine

    FYI
My problem with Greg Slayton is more cut and dry. On May 2010 I spoke with Greg Slayton from Delta Performance Marine and consequently ordered two rebuilt 3116 cat marine 350HP bobtail engines at a cost of US$15,000.00 each. I wire transfer the required 50% deposit and then the final payment when he claimed that the engines where ready to ship.

I have phoned him, emailed him and he continuously had an excuse for not sending the engines. On September 1st I emailed him asking him to send me a refund and he called me right away and promised to send them the following week. Today is October 5, 2010 I have yet to receive my engines. Every time I called him he would promised that next week and next week but they were never delivered to the freight forwarder.

Greg is no longer answering my phone calls any suggestions?"

Get a lawyer involved. Your money is long gone. Put a lien on his most prized possession Home, business etc. I saw this situation before with friends. You will eventually get your money back through his tax refunds, or any income the business brings in. They can set it up where you will be paid. Good luck.

    In this economy,

I would be afraid of any supplier that wanted a 50 percent deposit to order. I used to deal with a stair builder that wanted 50 percent with the order, 40 percent when shipped and the final 10 when the handrail was installed. It made no sense to me, I stopped using him. I have since heard he is having to file bankruptcy. Its too much up front with nothing to hold. Sorry to hear that.

You saved us from one big headache... We were about to jump on a pair of c12 $54,000 worth of rebuilt iron... I have his number as 912-617-0101

I'll let ring power (Cat distributor in St. Augustine) know of the issue as their name was dropped as a reference... I have zero tollerance for that crap.

I'll tell you right now dopey, thats a lie. You were not about to jump on a pair of C-12's. Rebuilt no less. There isnt a sane human being on the entire planet that would think of spending 54,000 dollars on a pair of them, rebuilt. They are perhaps one of the worst engines cat has built. The reason they were rebuilt is they BLEW up! And your going to sit here and say, thanks, the check was in the mail, I went to the post office and got it back because they know me. This is why you lack crediblity dopey, You want so bad to insert yourself in the center of the universe, you come off looking like a googan. Your just a liar, but it really is your problem because your lying about yourself and your importance. When does it stop?

Supposedly they were remans 669 hp acert conversion from ring power themselves (Ring is based in St. Augustine area and I do trust them implicitly)... $27k each plus $1500 dyno charge. Thats about what market is...

No the check wasn't cut but the wheels were in motion. Delta is supposedly in Woodbine , GA. and do have some working relationship with yet another rebuilder in Orlando. We had researched and planned on possibly pulling out at Thunderbolt, GA just outside Savanah or possibly some where down closer to Brunswick. Before we would make any move though we would have made sure of their validity first with people we know at Ring.

Brand new mills are $56,000 for the same engine each. Anybody that has done the reaearch knows these numbers to be spot on so who's credibility is in question?

3196 is the one they had aftercooler problems with. C-12 is one of the standard packages they put in the 45's built after ours. Most of they were the acert 715 mills. We wanted the 669 cause we could stick with our trannies, shafts and wheels. The idea of reman made sense cause we would not recover the cost of brand new come trade/ sale time. Warranty as presented was one year standard with extended available.

Mirage is a very sweet machine. Brought around to pretty new standards stem to stern. However her power is her achilies heel and are ones with a true history of trouble. 6-92 itself isnt the issue. Its the 625hp configuration that is. Squeezing that many ponies out of a 552 inch engine goes past that "magic" threshold of a pony max per inch. Countelss reports of them letting go at 1400 to 1600 hours. We're at 2800. The rings have rotated and compression on the one is not where it should be. We baby them and will get this season out of them but past that for us they have lived their life.
The c-12 in the 669 config would burn 42gph where ours are currenly slurping 58-62 depending on sea condition. We carry 600+- but effectively 500 is our dry line. "fence" is not currently in our range...

Its a shame that this individual has an issue and it does put me in an akward position cause I had presented this company and the product they represent to my boss as a logical option to brand new power.

Glad to see you came on and stood up on this... I'll give you credit for manning up. I mentioned above I have zero tollerance for delays and slow follow ups to questions regarding dates etc. It seems a break down of communication along the way and am curious what happened cause this? It shouldn't have to come down to someone going public with concerns before you responded.

You saw my reaction to it and you know what we discussed was had a wrench thrown in the works by it...
