GPS and Fishfinder

My buddy bought a boat this year and I told him I'd buy the GPS /fishfinder.

I have been doing some research but no research can make up for experience. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a modest system. We mostly target stripers and on occasion hopefully some BFT.

THe Raymarine A series would do the job I would get the biggest screen that will fit and you can afford.
