    GPS

I have a Raytheon 620 Chartplotter with a 10' screen. It functions but will not bring up GPS #.
I called Raymarine & they said the sensor is probably bad. Is there any testing procedures ? I checked Raymarine's website and they have replacement items -- new cable, lithium battery. A new Raymarine 125 sensor is $300. It's a black & white screen & probably obsolete, as far as electronics go.

For my smallboat I have a Garmin 498c only a 5" screen but with color, & the Garmin, new B2 charttography & fast redraw time. About $500. bucks.

Should I put the money toward another Garmin or try to get the Raytheon 620
    chartplotter fixed ??

You called Raymarine and they said the sensor is probably bad? Is there a testing procedure? They didn't tell you???? I'm not impressed with the customer service. The repair is 60% of replacement....hmmm. It's your call, but what if you spend the $$$ on the sensor and that isn't the problem?

Your observation about the features of the newer unit says a lot. Electronics is a fast moving target. I own a few of Garmin's products and IMHO when it comes to GPS they are the best, hands down.

It's only money. You'll make more.
IE8 says this may be a phishing site....Well, DUH!!!!!!... Stupid jerks can't even spell fishing right.

Look for a raytheon 112 gps senor on ebay, they pop up all the time, there is one on there right now for a hundred bucks. I'm in the same situation as you, I need a new gps sensor for my 620. Problem is Raymarine does not have the updates for this unit any more since it is pre-2000, therefore I cannot get tides, or dates set right. I will stick with my hand held gps for now, and hope Santa brings me some new toys!!!

If I bought the hundred buck one on ebay, I would have all the labor to run the wire through the radar arch down to the flybridge. And who knows how the 112 works. The 112 was probably obsolete. I had the 120 sensor and they were replaced by the 125 which cost $299.00.

I decided it was easier to uninstall the 620 and install the Garmin 498c (with built in antenna) color unit. I wasn't to eager to give up the 10" screen for a
5" screen but I'm glad I did, the color screen has a real bright image and it reloads the charts instantainously. I figured $299. for a sensor versus $499. which I paid for the Garmin--only about 200 bucks for the 498c. I got a good deal on the unit through Blue Hurricane.
