    Getting old boat decals off.........

Whats the best way to get old boat decal stickers off of your boat? I do not want to damage the boat, but the only way seems to be with a wallpaper scraper, any ideas?...thanks

Try heating them up with a hair drier or something, and they may peel off easy....if not you could try a plastic scraper after heating them, then just use a solvent to dissolve the leftover glue.

I just took the old name off my boat and used a heat gun and it peeled off easily, then some goof off for the leftover glue residue.

Heat gun and fingernail. Clean off leftover adhesive with googone, denatured alcohol, etc...

Just make sure your gelcoat has not faded. I dont think it would look all that great with the decal off and a miscolored hull. Make sure you check on that.

I used a hair dryer to remove sticker and mineral spirits to remove the rest of the glue

John's got it right. Heat gun followed up by goof off. Done it on a couple of boats now. If the decal is very sticky you can use a razor blad but be VERY careful with it or you can gouge the gel coat in a hurry.

yea, def. be careful with a razor blade. I didnt have to use it, but brought a plastic spackle knife with me incase i needed it. I figured that would be much more gentle on the gelcoat than a razor blade

Goo gone works very well. Don;t use very much. you can always add more if you have to but Iwas sparing with it on my boat and it worked great without harming the finish. No need for a razor blade or a plastic edge. Just a rag worked for me. If you do need an edge and don't want to harm the gel coat try a credit card.
