Getting the black out?

When I went to pick up the boat to bring her down. I saw the boss tried to "help". Found soft scrubed areas all over the place. Washed the shine clear off the boat in a lot of places. One of the worst areas was on the transom. No protectant at all.
We run detroits and detroits after 1200 miles leave a good bit of black... With that in mind some of it has taken up residence on the unprotected finish and nothing I tried will get it gone... At this point even my trusty purple power wont touch it. Tried goo gone which took care of unseen remaining adhesive from the old lettering but won't get the set in stuff... Tried some mild acid. Afraid to go the on-off route but it has worked in the past for me... Soft scrub is what set this problem up and even that isn't working...
Any idea what might work?

Mr Clean Magic Eraser... Been there, done that...

They are very small cell sponges - and not overly abrasive.

Once you get the black off, get a good coat of wax on. I actually buffed the transom with mirror glaze to seal, then waxed it...

It takes a bit of elbow grease, but when you are done, it will be back to the normal color. We use a bit of OrPine in water along with the Magic Erasers - Sam's Club and BJ's have them in bulk

Deep,go to Dollar Tree and pick up some "Awesome" its in a squirt bottle in the cleaning section for a buck.

Get your bucket of soap ready and dunk your brush in there first then spray the brush with the awesome and brush it just as if you are washing the transom, let it set a minute or two and rinse. It may need it done twice to really get it clean.

BTW,I used to have Volvo's,so I know all about soot and this is where I learned this little cheap trick

The OrPine is just a lubricant. The sponges are very mildly abrasive (and I do mean very mildly)

They will take the wax off, so plan on sealing and waxing once you are through.

It takes 30 - 45 mins to do my transom with the magic erasers

I've got 3126s - most of the summer I had to clean lines before starting to fish, because the sooting was so bad. That is now fixed, and the transom looks new.

And I have a gallon of Roll-Off you can have - it didn't make a dent.

Roll off came up short tooo. This stuff is really part of the furniture.
On and Off is a pretty violent acid... You can actually see it smoking when it comes in contact with carbon, cement or especially aluminum... You don't want it touching you or any metal... I don't want it near the 24kt gold leaf for that matter... If it gets on the boot stripe I dont care though... I'm getting a new one of them...
