Deep, make sure the non-skid is super clean, then apply woody wax spray. The directions for using it on non-skid are on the label.

We run detroits and detroits after 1200 miles leave a good bit of black... With that in mind some of it has taken up residence on the unprotected finish and nothing I tried will get it gone... At this point even my trusty purple power wont touch it. Tried goo gone which took care of unseen remaining adhesive from the old lettering but won't get the set in stuff... Tried some mild acid. Afraid to go the on-off route but it has worked in the past for me... Soft scrub is what set this problem up and even that isn't working...
    Any idea what might work?
First wash the problem areas marine spray 9 at full strength, this should remove the residue from the soft scrub. after that your going to see that the soft scrub scratched the gelcoat and everwhere that was scrubbed with soft scrub will have to be compounded. The best stuff to use is 3m compound (high gloss for fiberglass, should be white. After that you can follow it up with collinite fleet wax.
p.s. git rid of the soft scrub should only be used on tile or as a house hold cleaner.

once she is clean the BEST way to keep her that way was to clearcoat the transom. then is comes off with the greatest of ease.

I second collinite for most cleaning needs, I do mt whole boat with it every fall then wax every spring and she shines like new. Deep, acetone would get it off also for future reference, but it will need to be washed after and then sealed to protect, you don't want it on too long.

first...get the boat wheeled correctly, that will just about eliminate the soot on the transom

acetone isn't a really good approach to take, you really don't wanna use that as a general cleaner,it strips the gel coat of wax, also,if you've got a painted name on the transom,it's gonna do some damage to that as well-so...

that colonite fiberglass cleaner,on a buffing pad-a real buffer should get ya' going again...if that doesn't get it off,try 3m finessit rubbing compound on a buffing wheel...after you use these products,be sure to wax the transom again

When I put my boat away in the fall it gets a good wash inside and out. In the spring the wool buffer pad comes out and I use Mary Kate brand or 3M cleaner wax over the whole boat. Sometimes the transom gets done 2 times but it always comes out clean. I do 500 hrs a year and no sadly it does not get cleaned after every charter so it is pretty dirty. The cleaner wax on a buffer is great.

jawz...I wasn;t recommending acetone as a regular cleaner, but for caked on ground in soot it works, but will need wax after, which Deep had said he planned to do once he got it off. I would never use this on a regular basis. The paint is a good point though, I neglected to mention that. As for wheeled properly, those engines are notorious for smoking, not sure how the wheel is causing that in his case. Yes, his wheel might not be in tip top shape but those engines will have a certain amount of soot regardless of right wheel or not.
