Gas to diesel conversion. What size diesel motor am I looking at.
24 ft center console. Inboard 454 gas. I am toying with the diesel idea. The motor is fine but I want to change the tanks so I figure while I'm at it why not. My issue is I don't know what size is comparable. I looked a 330 hp diesel and it weighed 1475 pounds which might be a little heavy. So is a 150 hp diesel gonna be close power wise to the 350 hp 454. I understand the difference between gas and diesel but I just don't know what too look at.

Just My Opinion,
You will end up spending WAY more money than you can imagine it will. Generally speaking it will not be worth the conversion. Frank

Yea I was pretty sure of that. That's why I was asking on here and not actually doing it. It's just a dream but while we are on the topic. What else am I looking at that will add expenses.
Diesel engine
Fuel tanks
Fuel lines
Seperator
Transmission
And.............
Drive shaft and prop maybe.
The actual motor swap would be easy. Plenty of access and space believe it or not. My whole console flips forward take out the leaning post and you have total access. Fuel tankswill require cutting the deck but I had planned on this anyway. That seems like the biggest pia.

cummins 210hp,with a gear - approx $18k
prop shaft,prop,dripless packing
exhaust modification - i think a rampage has 2 exhaust outlets on the transom ? if it does - you're gonna need to glass up one hole, and make the other much larger - which requires tubing, hose, outlet
batteries, cabling, racor - fuel lines will need to be fabricated - along with selector valving - rampage has 2 tanks, yes ? diesels have "return" lines - you're gonna need a 6 way valve to use the tanks properly - pretty pricey piece - this selects feed and return lines from tank to engine...
rough guess - start to finish including properly coating the fuel tanks, and replacing the tanks -somewhere in the ball park of $30k - doing it yourself, around $23-24k...
priced a similar job earlier this season
that was an old blackfin 24 - the fuel tanks were leaking in that rig as well...

Hide- My Wifes Logged On
Several years ago I converted a 25 black fin from 454 to yanmar 230 diesel. This turned out to be the best boat I have ever owned. I ran it for 9 years and then sold it for 30k. At that time it cost me 15k doing it all myself. There are some definite tricks to saving money , you can pm me if you want some ideas. Good luck
