Chatted with you and capt. from the DUKE back in Oct. catching blues in the channel just outside the inlet. The nxt day we took our little Hydra Sports to the Point and found a pile of blackfin. Landed 45 or more without the ff using only gps/temp. to keep us in the fish. Fished with 2 other boats in site til 10:00 or so before the fleet found us. Thanks, Netman

One would think if you were having trouble with aeration around the ducer you would be experiencing a lot more all around.

I'm not a huge fan of transom mounts.

I would have to bet that the transducer is the issue.

Have you tried calling Furuno tech support? They are usually very helpful. It is best to be in front of the unit.

If it was me, I would be changing the transducer out. With a 23wa the tilted element transducer or low profile thru hull would be the simplest installation and best bet fit. http://www.sportfishermen.com/shop/f...0w-10-pin.html

    Thanks LuckyLady!

Never considered this as an option until I read your reply. I'll be having fiberglass work performed soon and a thru hull could easily be added and done professionally instead of a bolt on transom mount replacement done in my drive. Most times two heads are better than one and SFC has been a great 2nd. I'll be discussing further with Furuno posting final results. Netman

Had a call from Furuno today. After discussing the issue we left it as "unsure". I was unable to recall the info/screen details they need to rule out the unit as having a problem and not the transducer. So I need to splash and head E to the deep, take a few snap shots of the screen and return. With all the freak'n pictures I take, I never thought to document the issue with them while out there. There is no way to trouble shoot without a 2-3,000' pond.
May be a while with stripers next on the list, staying inside 3 miles. Thanks again, Netman

Let me know how you make out. Surprising that it would be the unit. One way to test and tell is if someone has another transducer laying around same pin configuration. Take it offshore with you and unplug the transom mount from the back of the black box or unit and plug the one you brought along in and hang it off the side of the boat.

Hey Netman...I've got the Furuno 1650 with a 600W through hull transducer. I can get bottom offshore up to and 200 fathoms....I always set to manual once I start the search to about 400Feet and run split screen 50/200Hz setting and that seems to give me the best performance for tuning in on bait.

I also had a transom mount a long time ago and switched to a through hull transducer and it makes a world of difference.

Best way to manually tune it is to get to about 50 - 60 fathoms, set to manual and adjust the gain until you get a double bottom reading...and then manually set your depth range to where you want to fish (I believe anything below 400 feet is useless myself)....

    Good luck....Bob

    Great info Bob.

I went back to a couple shots of your video showing GPS/FF screen and you are definately marking fish/bait at depth I've not been able to see. Thanks Netman
