    Furuno DFF3

    I just saw that this 3kw network sounder is now available from furuno and it is listed in many websites with actual pricing. Has anyone actually seen or installed one?

    It shows a connector for a HF ducer and a LF ducer. I have an Airmar in hull R199 and has a single 10 pin connector ( i think it is 10 pin). it also shows a temp/speed 6 wire connector. I use a Y cable from 10 pin to 6 pin to my temp/speed connector.

    Question? can I use my transducer and temp/speed sensors? How would i rig it, it looks like cutting and splicing is necessary?

    Thanks!

    The 10 Pin R199 has a diplexer built-in. The R199 the DFF3 needs is not diplexed and has dedicated cables for each frequency. I think you will be able to make your current ducer work with the DFF3 but at only one frequency or the other, but not both. I can certainly look into this further for you if you thinks its something you want to do. I am pretty certain you will need the other R199 though.

    Thanks Jim!

    I had a the same problem with another transducer and fathometer. Contact Airmar, they are VERY helpfull. They sent me the internal wiring and the correct connections for the sounder. I just got the FCV295 and had to contact then to get the correct tap setting, (internal jumpers that match the freguency khz to the transducer). The 295 uses wago connectors instend of connector plugs. I cut my connector off and wired according to Airmar and it works great.

    Hi Bill, was your transducer a Furuno 10 Pin ducer or some other ducer? The Furuno 10 Pin Ducers have a built in diplexer which basically takes the 2 signals and sends them down teh cable as 1 signal. I just called Airmar to confirm that you can't break them back out to 2 signals for use on the DFF3. To the original poster, you will need to get a different ducer as yours will not work. If Bill had a 10 Pin ducer and got it to work then I'll go back to Airmar and figure this one out.

    Hi Jim;
    Sorry for not getting back to you sooner but just got back in town. Let me explain, the FCV295 will work with either 1,2,3 KW transduccer of either type. Furuno uses hard wire to the unit and tap setting (like dip switches) to account for the different type transducers. Airmar gave me the tap settings. This might be the way the companies are going to allow for more selection.

    I was told by Furuno that it would not work either. The 10 pin ducer is not compatible with the new dff3. if anyone has any other information, i would like to know...

    Thanks
