    Furuno 600L or 582L?

Does anyone have any experience with both of these fish finders? I hear great things about the 582L but haven't heard much about the 600L. I plan to mount this unit on a small Boston Whaler with a transom mount transducer. The Furuno rep recommends the 600L for my application but I would like to hear others opinions. I will be fishing for bass, cod and tuna in depths up to 400'.

My old boat had the 582 with a transom mount transducer. It showed well up to about 30 knots running and held bottom well. New boat has the 600 with a 1,000 watt thru hull and high speed fairing block. Boat cruises 28 knots and it never looses bottom or fuzzes over. Have only had it to 100 fathoms so far and it held bottom just fine. It will mark bait just fine cruising 28 knots also. The perfect world would be the 582 with the 1,000 watt thru hull. If you can't go with the thru hull take a look at the shoot thru, I'm not sure if you can get it at 1,000 watts though. Obviously with the same transducer the 582 will outperform the 600 since it has twice the power but I think either will do the job for you. As far as ease of operation I would say the 582 because it had knobs instead of buttons and menus to hunt through. Of course I have only had the 600 for a few months and I used the 582 for a couple of years so I could be a little biased just based on my lack of experience with the 600.

    as little as possible
I have had both, on the same boat(s). 582l maxes out at 600w and 600l at 350w. 582 has knobs to change key items such as range and gain - menu with 600l, PITA. Slightly bigger screen on 582l, too.

putting a transducer that is capable of transmitting 1000w on either unit doesn't get u 1000w, just whatever the head unit is capable of transmitting. Still, the 1kw transducers b260 and m260 have more elements and better resolution than the cheaper ducers.

Spend the money and get the 582 and the best ducer u can fit.

I looked at both units (600L and 582L) and also the Si-Tex CVS 106L and 832-L.......

I think the 600L is a very good unit, but would go with the 582L if you can afford it. Even nicer unit, easier to use, bigger screen, etc etc.

I went with the Si-Tex CVS-106L, personal preference, and $$$$, but is very similar to the Furuno 600L. My next unit will be either the Furuno 582 or Si-Tex CVS-832L, when I can afford "more" lol.

As far as the 'ducer, what those guys above said , I am only using the Transom Mount 'ducer for now. I may/may not go with a thru-hull when I upgrade, for now, this one does the trick, the way I mounted it. Mounting a Transom Mount is a pain and a bit of "art", to get them to work right
