For navigation is an ok unit. It's what I have. The 1715 will give you a bit larger display.
If your plans are to use it to find birds, then forget it. You'll need a 4kw unit.............. Good luck, AT |

It will get you thru fog,you can manually adjust it to pick up T-storms and it will pick up other boats.You just have to learn how to use it.For the price,its a good base unit for a small boat.

I have the 1623 on my bay boat, and just as said by those before me, it is a great basic unit that will pick up storms, fog, obstructions, and boats if properly tuned. I would, however, agree that the 1715 is a bit nicer because the screen is a bit bigger...other than that it is a great little unit!!
