For navigation is an ok unit. It's what I have. The 1715 will give you a bit larger display.

If your plans are to use it to find birds, then forget it. You'll need a 4kw unit..............

It will get you thru fog,you can manually adjust it to pick up T-storms and it will pick up other boats.You just have to learn how to use it.For the price,its a good base unit for a small boat.
