    Fuel Stain.... HELP!

Hi Guys, I've got a problem thats making me sick. I'm up here in New England and the weather well hasn't been the best. I topped off both tanks went I launched for the season. And was only able to get down to the boat two or three time while it was blowing 20 kts and pouring rain. But come this weekend the weather has improved (at least on shore) and with the rise in temps my fuel expanded and backed out the vent running down the hull.

Anyway not being there to clean up right away it left a stain from the vent down to the water line.
The hull has a fresh awgrip finish, Awlcraft 2000 in Oyster White in 2008.
I've tried to wash it off, then tried a hull cleaner (mild) lightened but not removed.
Just thought I would ask to see if there are any tricks or products you might have up your sleeves. Very protective of my finish.

    Thanks in advance.

    Tony G.

My boat is painted with imron, this weekend spent most of my time trying to get soot (?) off the boat--not sure the source as it was sitting in a boatyard.

Tried various products, best result was Mothers Cleaner Wax, worked by hand, no machine. This was not a spot stain, but the entire boat.

before you try to buff out your paint..

try regular clorox clean-up from your local grocery store.

wet down the sides where the stain is.. spray it down real good and give it a minute the wash with a hand mitt and dawn soap..

    hope this works for you.

    That depends...
Magic Eraser works pretty well on most stains to include fuel stains on your hull. I haven't personally experienced any issues with the coatings/finishes. Perhpas others can attest or offer the contrary.

    just remember

anytime you scratch / buff through a two part paint it dulls the finish and opens up poors.

I agree with the Magic Eraser. I had a friend give me that tip last year and now use it all over the boat...works in all kinds of situations

    results

Hey Guys, thanks for the the thoughts, I did try denatured alcohol and acetone neither worked. Decided to steer clear of the abrasives for now, figured I could always go down that path. Hoping that sunlight with take care of it over time. And in the mean time I will dabble with non-abrasive alternatives.

Thanks again, I'll post progress/results as they happen.
