Not sure what's going on with that company (the one in the original post) but my emails are being returned undeliverable.

The web site was last modified 2004...could they have went belly up?

BTW: I'm liking the idea of a live-aboard too. I could do the caribbean scene 24/7/365.

i know a guy who fishes the Nantucket Billfish tournament each year and they go 100 miles ONE WAY EACH day to the canyons and another 100 miles back. they spend $2,000 a day in fuel. they fish 4 of the 5 days i think. now imagine going out there and just staying there the whole time and catching them up.

    man that is heaven.

    More on Diesel-Electric Propulsion

    Flatdog,
Check out www.ossapowerlite.com. Oshkosh also has a new product for the military that is diesel-electric for their Heavy Expanded Mobiliity Tractor Trailor (very big and heavy truck) in a system that is very very light. There is nothing unique about it and it is similar in design to those in use in boats already. We will see people adopting it for the marine industry soon. The stuff aint heavy any more and we will see it get lighter in the future.

Thanks jason have bookmarked the site will see if they will send any info. its very strange that we are not seeing more of this kind of thing, as we are quick to take up most other developments that are millitary spin off's.

Here is an article about the diesel-electric hybrid truck
http://www.findarticles.com/p/articl...1/ai_n14707664, it has alot of information about the design and how they eliminated some of the propulsion system's weight. I am sold on this technology and hope to use it someday. The truck is being fielded right now and I will let you know how it runs once I see one.

Here’s a mind blower for the diesel electric boat, eliminate the diesel generator altogether!

    Run forever on nothing!

I’ve been following this technology for many years. It’s not as crazy as it sounds and I’ve actually seen some prototypes in action. The guy who owns the above site is a bit of a recluse but he may have something. The original designs belonged to a guy named Howard Johnson (of all things).

    … food for thought
