To me,it would look like with those drives that the wheelwash would wash away your bottom paint in short order.

Thanks for keeping us up to date Freedom. I can't wait to hear about her performance on the water!
Boat looks amazing.
Don't mean to be a debbie downer but what happens to the unit(s) if you hit something, i.e. a log or the bottom. Replace the whole unit that is under the boat?
I ask this as our ride is sitting in the travel lift getting our props changed![]()
The theory is if you strike something hard enough the pods are designed to shear off below the waterline and the portion left in the boat will provide a tight seal to the hull.
Theory is that this could be less expensive to replace than conventional running gear. I'm not sure if that still holds true with more than 2 units.
That's the theory. I'm not sure if it's been proven yet.
There was a manufcturer that had a hard grounding with these things and they didn't shear off. From what I understand the units got hung up and the occupants of the boat sustained some injuries as a result of an abrupt stop.
I guess if you hit something hard enough and with enough force I'm sure most anything would shear off.
Just in the "In My Opinion" category...
The guy that can afford this boat gives a doodoo for "what happens if". He just pays for it and moves on. If it is catastrophic, he buys a new one; if its an expensive repair, his secretary takes care of it for him and he's never bothered.
Let's face it, to buy, own, and fish/maintain a multi million dollar boat requires reserves that make the odd log hit or grounding insignificant.
When I win the big lotto I'm going to prove it to you![]()
that is so true.
whenever you walk down the marina docks seeing the prices on the tanks... you already know
I was thinking more about timing than money but you are definitely right about it being expensive. It doesn't matter what kind of gear you have below the waterline, when you hit something at 30+ knots there is going to be damage done and money spent.
Care to share a background story on that pic you included?
I understand but why piss 4 mil against the wall when for 100 k extra, with twin keel protection you save or soften the blow.
Then go hit a just below surface container at 30 knots!!!!!!!!!! In whatever boat unless you are running 6" thick steel as a keel even then you better have some welding gear aboard.
We'll be launching by the end of this week. She's complete except for punchwork, engine startup, systems checks, and seatrials. A few new pictures....
